I joined @nctriangledsa and @ivrf.nc for a protest tonight at Gateway Women’s Care, a crisis pregnancy center in Durham. This CPC is located near legitimate health clinics, which is a common tactic of anti-abortion centers. Peaceful protests like these raise awareness about the dangers of CPCs and get more people involved in the movement. ✊ #stopfakeclinics

"The only thing that these Crisis Pregnancy Centers are able to provide largely are pregnancy tests. You can get those for free at a local public health center, and there's $20 million that's been sent to these centers over the past two years. So the value added is so little and it's at the cost of deception, ultimately. -KG Smith of @nctriangledsa on supporting HB 1120

Show up for the Durham community with us to demand the removal of fake clinics like Gateway Women’s Care. Did you know these centers are funded by redirecting taxpayers’ money away from legitimate sources of care like community health clinics and rape crisis centers ($20 million to be exact)? Hear it from the state representative pushing back: Rep Julie von Haefen. She will be on site at our picket to tell us more about a bill she is introducing to oppose state funding for anti-abortion centers.

This May Day, Triangle DSA took to the streets in Raleigh and Durham in solidarity with thousands of workers from across the state, country, and world to say workers, not billionaires, hold the power. đŸ’Ș May Day, or International Workers’ Day, commemorates an 1886 strike for an 8-hour work day led by American workers, now celebrated across the globeđŸŒčWhat did you march for this May Day? — đŸŽ„: @nick.s.collier

TURN OUT TO THE FINAL VOTE! Let's pack the house and demand Durham City Council pass a moratorium to stop the development and expansion of dangerous data centers & crypto mining in the city! 6pm: Community rally; food and mutual aid supply drive by The People's Table. (Bring items to donate to our unhoused neighbors if you can!*); Libation ceremony with @theejamesstewart ; and more! 7pm: Sign up to give public comment on the "Data Center Moratorium" prior to the start of the meeting at 7pm in the Council Chambers, Durham City Hall. (details below) We deserve the strongest and longest moratorium now, as well as permanent protections to stop Big Tech, Dirty Energy, and for-profit developers from running and ruining our lives and futures. Big Tech's AI and their data centers running this technology are worsening inequality, depleting our water sources, driving climate change, driving up our electric bills, surveilling every aspect of our lives, assisting ICE detentions and US/Israeli genocide, and poisoning our air, water, environment, and bodies. Enough is enough! Our lives, homes, and communities are not for sale!!! More info: For public comment, you normally get 2-3 minutes to speak. You can call the clerk's office if you have questions 919-560-4166. For more info on providing comments virtually, sending in written comments, and ways to watch the meeting, visit: bit.ly/durham-city-hall-info For updates, talking points, and/or to sign the petition, visit: bit.ly/stop-data-centers Co-sponsoring orgs: Community Land and Power, Merrick-Moore CDC, Clean Water NC, Sound Rivers, Toxic Free NC, North Carolina Environmental Justice Network, Mothers* For Ceasefire, Southerners On New Ground, Durham Art Guild, Carolina Jews For Justice - Durham/Orange County, Jewish Voice For Peace - Triangle NC, Moms Clean Air Force *The People's Table will be serving food and collecting donations for our unsheltered neighbors (see 2nd slide; DM @thebullcityvanguard /[email protected] for info). Sign making for the 4th at their May 1st event! Then get ready to stop Duke Energy's rate hikes (much of which are tied to data center development) on May 12th @cleanwaternc !

Another abortion care kit party for the BOOKS đŸ©· Last month the Abort Fake Clinics campaign collaborated with several reproductive justice organizations to deliver reproductive mutual aid to the triangle. The lack of access to care in our communities drives people to these crisis pregnancy centers (fake clinics) for things like free pregnancy tests. Our campaign works to put that and more into the hands of people seeking care, disrupting the demand for AAC services. Reproductive justice is about not only choice, but access- we won’t stop until we have both đŸ’Ș #fuckfakeclinics

RESCHEDULED!: The NC Utilities Commission rescheduled the hearing to June 3, citing "security concerns". This is a peaceful, fun event to make our voices heard because this hearing is about whether Duke Energy can raise our bills 18%, in part to power big tech's data centers. What's really going on? They are worried about too much public participation! DO NOT LET THEM SQUASH YOUR VOICE. SEE YOU JUNE 3RD! We are working with the performers and speakers to reschedule, we will announce the final lineup of performers & speakers when we have it confirmed! In the meantime, SAVE THE DATE JUNE 3RD 5:30PM RALLY & DRAG SHOW, 7PM HEARING Duke Energy wants to raise our bills, in part to power big tech data centers. The NC Utilities Commission is holding a hearing in Durham to decide if they should let them. The real energy emergency: North Carolinians having to choose between paying the light bill and paying for food, medicine, or rent! One reason your bills are so high?: NC electric bills are subsidizing power for big tech companies’ data centers. What makes it even worse: Our money, water, & land are being consumed for for AI tools we don’t use, but are used for: Surveillance Wars Deporting our neighbors 5:30pm- Rally & Drag Show 7pm- Hearing begins! @nclcv

The numbers are in
last night’s Dance for Cuba fundraiser was a massive success! 🇹đŸ‡ș💃 We danced, we built community with DSA and non-DSA folks alike, and most importantly
we raised over $1900 to support DSA’s shipment of medical supplies! Couldn’t make it, but want to help us reach $2000? It’s not too late to chip in at the link in bio!đŸŒč HUGE THANKS to @the_pinhook , @palenkecubandance & @soundsbysifi !! â€ïžâ€đŸ”„

Hyperscale data centers are harming communities around the country and setting up battles with residents across North Carolina. While action is necessary at the state and federal levels, we can adopt modern local regulations to address this issue, first putting in place a development moratorium to give staff time to work on them. The Durham community has led this effort and done the research, organizing, and advocacy to make this possible. Let’s adopt this moratorium and enact high quality regulations.
