It took six months of fighting in court for every legal vote to count, but Allison Riggs was finally sworn in one year ago today!
Justice Riggs’ victory proved democracy can prevail but the threats to our freedoms and democracy continue.
We must recommit to defending the rule of law against gerrymandered maps & attacks on voting
rights.
Without a fair, representative democracy, we cannot fight for a clean, healthy state to live in. That’s why we believe we need a healthy democracy to have a healthy environment

Duke Energy wants to raise our bills… 18%! Why? In part to power big tech data centers. The NC Utilities Commission is holding a hearing in Durham to decide if they should let them. This is a peaceful, fun event to raise our voices against this rate hike! bit.ly/drag-down (link in bio!)
The real energy emergency: North Carolinians having to choose between paying the light bill and paying for food, medicine, or rent!
One reason your bills are so high?: NC electric bills are subsidizing power for big tech companies’ data centers.
What makes it even worse: Our money, water, & land are being consumed for AI tools we don’t use, but are used for:
Surveillance
Wars
Deporting our neighbors
Hear from incredible speakers including: Durham City Councilman Nate Baker and Darrion Smith of UE 150.
Next, rally around for an amazing drag show featuring Naomi Dix! Can she finally get billionaires (Pay My) Bills Gates & Jeff Bozos to pay their fair share? Then speak out at the hearing!
5:30pm - Rally & Drag Show
7pm - Hearing begins!
Commenting at the hearing: After we tell our story outside the hearing, the real work happens in front of the NC Utilities Commission, & they care most about in-person comments in the hearing. Comment warriors unite! Here are some facts to help you:
Duke Energy is seeking to raise residential rates by 18%, an average of $20-30 per month on your bill. However, actual bills will be much higher as fuel costs (like gas prices!) will only increase over time.
In 2025, Duke Energy made almost FIVE BILLION dollars in PROFIT. More than 20% of our monthly bills are pure profit for Duke Energy’s shareholders. Duke Energy should be freezing rates instead of forcing higher bills on working class people.
Over 80% of Duke’s projected demand comes from data centers, which many of our communities don’t even want! Duke and Big Tech are forcing the costs of gas plants needed to power data centers onto YOU.
As of December 2025, 1 in 5 Duke customers are struggling to pay their bills, according to Duke’s self-reported data.
@stormiedaie thank you for being the artistic vision behind the original May 12 event!❤️ You will be missed!
RESCHEDULED!: The NC Utilities Commission rescheduled the hearing to June 3, citing "security concerns". This is a peaceful, fun event to make our voices heard because this hearing is about whether Duke Energy can raise our bills 18%, in part to power big tech's data centers.
What's really going on? They are worried about too much public participation! DO NOT LET THEM SQUASH YOUR VOICE. SEE YOU JUNE 3RD!
We are working with the performers and speakers to reschedule, we will announce the final lineup of performers & speakers when we have it confirmed! In the meantime, SAVE THE DATE JUNE 3RD 5:30PM RALLY & DRAG SHOW, 7PM HEARING

Speaking this week at the NewDEAL Leaders Ideas Summit in Raleigh, Congresswoman Deborah Ross outlined how the Trump administration’s anti-environment and anti-clean energy policies have affected North Carolina’s efforts to expand clean energy and lower costs for consumers.
One of Trump’s first actions after returning to office last year was to end two wind projects off the North Carolina coast that would have powered nearly 600,000 homes.

Duke Energy wants to raise customer energy bills by 18% — approximately $34/month for the average customer — over the next two years. This is on top of fuel costs that are expected to rise as the war in Iran rages on.
Instead of investing in expensive, dirty fossil fuels, Duke should be investing in the cheapest, cleanest sources of energy: wind and solar. These clean energy sources are the quickest way to add energy to our grid AND do not require volatile fuel costs.
Call the NC Utilities Commission at 919-733-7328 and tell them they must reign in Duke Energy’s greed and stop this rate hike! Hardworking NC families deserve better.

While Trump hits North Carolina's economy from the outside, Duke Energy & NC Republican lawmakers hit us from within. More rate hikes would cost us all money we can't spare, and last year's SB 266 cost us thousands of jobs & billions in investments. #ncpol #energy #no2ratehikes
Duke Energy is trying to raise prices again, even as they announce record profits. Sen. Jay Chaudhuri spoke with us before the first of ten public hearings where North Carolinians can tell the Utilities Commission to say no to rate hikes that no one can afford. #ncpol #no2ratehikes
