I joined @nctriangledsa and @ivrf.nc for a protest tonight at Gateway Women’s Care, a crisis pregnancy center in Durham. This CPC is located near legitimate health clinics, which is a common tactic of anti-abortion centers. Peaceful protests like these raise awareness about the dangers of CPCs and get more people involved in the movement. ✊ #stopfakeclinics

"The numbers we can see are alarming, Even with incomplete data that's submitted for reporting requirements, the Pregnancy Care Fellowship's own reports, which cover the period of 2024 and 2025, raise serious fiscal concerns. One of the crisis pregnancy centers that receives taxpayer money is called Lauren's Hope, located in Surf City. They received $32,000 of state funds to serve just nine clients. That's $3,600 per client. The Uwharrie Women's Center, which is located in Troy, North Carolina, receives $61,000 to serve 40 clients. That's $1,526 per client. @juliefornc on HB1120

"We have a CPC right on top of us, and a lot of their folks come outside of our clinic borders and try to mislead patients who are actively trying to come to us and seek care." -Gabby, clinic worker, on why she supports HB 1120

Glad the info is getting out there. More North Carolinians need to know about this. You have to scroll down a bit on this one though. /news/politics-government/politics-columns-blogs/under-the-dome/article315639187.html

"CPCs in NC are getting between $1,000 and $6,000 per person served. Now does served mean they are given a free pregnancy test? Does it mean they are told, "Think what Jesus would do?" " What does that money go for?" "I'm a Quaker and a demographer and a statistician." "Quakers do numbers." -Susan Newcomer, Chapel Hill Friends Meeting on supporting HB 1120

"The only thing that these Crisis Pregnancy Centers are able to provide largely are pregnancy tests. You can get those for free at a local public health center, and there's $20 million that's been sent to these centers over the past two years. So the value added is so little and it's at the cost of deception, ultimately. -KG Smith of @nctriangledsa on supporting HB 1120

“They are the creators and perpetrators of crisis.” Listen to faith leaders from @ivrf.nc and @rcrchoice discuss the dangers of crisis pregnancy centers in NC in support of H1120, the bill I filed this week to hold them accountable and invest instead in combatting our maternal and infant mortality crisis. #stopfakeclinics

"Crisis pregnancy centers are unregulated, non-medical facilities, and yet they have received millions in public funding." Katey Zeh, Religious Community for Reproductive Choice on supporting HB 1120

Yesterday, we hosted a Faith Leaders Advocacy Day. Our coalition partners met at the general assembly to lobby our representatives to support House Bill 1120: Direct Funding to Evidence-Based Maternal & Infant Care Over Crisis Pregnancy Centers (CPCs). CPCs reputation for misleading pregnant patients under the guise of a religious mission has deadly consequences in North Carolina, and we know as people of faith, they do not represent our values. According to the March of Dimes, 40% of North Carolina counties have NO hospitals/ birth centers offering maternity care. NC has nearly double the rate of maternal mortality compared to the national average. Why is public state funding directed to CPCs instead of towards evidence-based programs proven to improve maternal and infant health run by community health centers and hospitals?

IVRF - interfaith voices for reproductive freedom organized a great faith leaders advocacy day at the North Carolina general assembly today. We were joined by supporters including North Carolina rep Allen Buansi and our new North Carolina senator Jonah Garson. We were there stating that the State should not be wasting harmful monies as much as $19 million on fake crisis pregnancy centers. The money instead should be invested in real healthcare, by real healthcare professionals, in real healthcare clinics and not centers poising as if they were clinics and staff, pretending to be healthcare professionals. North Carolina is the third highest state in the nation spending money on these fake harmful centers. Meanwhile, we have one of the highest infant mortality and maternal mortality rates. We are in a public health crisis. We need to do better and unfortunately, the current leadership at the North Carolina General Assembly is not interested in healthy moms, healthy pregnancies, and healthy babies. If so, they wouldn’t be spending their money on fake healthcare. North Carolina representative Julie Von Haefen introduced a bill that would move the money from being spent on crisis pregnancy centers to be spent instead on real, community clinics and programs there to genuinely help women finding themselves in unexpected and unwanted pregnancies. @jonahgarsonnc @ivrf.nc @juliefornc @allenbuansi @samantha_heller @lisa.garcia.sampson @kateyzeh
