We want to disrupt the development industry by changing the conversation from affordable housing to affordable living. Our proposal for Tandy House repurposes a historical building on the park slated for demolition, suspends a tower of modular components (by Assembly) over its publicly accessible roof, and incorporates a sinus-curved, terracotta facade that gives shade in the summer and warmth in the winter. In 1989, Director Spike Lee released the film #dotherightthing. I was 22 years old. Shortly afterwards I left the US for Europe, critical of the pervasive inequities surrounding me. My journey took me to Berlin, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Oslo, and Riga before returning last year. Walking through a very different Brooklyn than in 1989, I came across this mural. And I can say these 4 words still resonate with me. It's time to heed these words and DO THE RIGHT THING. #stopwar #stopracism #stopgunviolence #blm @officialspikelee
