It is one of Australia’s greatest agriculture stories, built up over nearly 30 years, but it’s time for a new chapter.
This week Mort & Co will go on the market, following a decision by its board of directors to sell while the industry is strong and global demand for grainfed beef continues to grow.
“We go to market today as a highly respected Agricultural business – with a reputation for quality and trusted values. Mort & Co is known as a leader in the industry - built through innovation, courage and resilience – but most importantly through the commitment from our people and producer partners,” said CEO Stephen O’Brien.
Charlie Mort started the business in January 1997, custom feeding for graziers, and grew it into the success it is today - a vertically integrated supply chain servicing Australia’s largest feedlot, Grassdale.
A supply chain that includes a fleet of 45 prime movers, a cotton seed de-hulling and de-oiling plant and five award winning Angus and Wagyu beef brands which are exported across the globe. This is all possible with a team of 200+ employees and partnerships with more than 2,000 vendors supplying cattle directly to Mort & Co.
It is, without a doubt, a company built on innovation and strong relationships.
The sale process will begin immediately, with expressions of interest closing at the end of May. Details available through the @lawd_au team.

On this National Ag Day, we acknowledge our people.
Our producers who've witnessed the devastation of both flooding rains and devastating droughts.
Our staff who, despite disruptive trade discussions and policies, continue to make it work for all parties.
And our consumers, who know Aussie produce is still the best choice 🤝

“After nearly 30 years this isn’t the way I envisaged it. We’ve always been growing … so it’s bittersweet. But Mort & Co is in a very strong position and we have had a lot of interest in these sites so to me, this decision makes sense.” - Executive Chairman; Charlie Mort.
