Among fucked-up times; this time lately been fucked-up-ier… 4 years ago i started getting more serious organizing with @liyangwesternmass after Chad, Jurain, and 3 other community were massacred in New Bataan for their strength in organizing peasant farmers. I had only met Chad on zoom and loved videos of Jurain singing… Now: dozens of kasamas are grieving people they’ve met, known, learned from, loved, lived & organized with—after the latest massacre by the 🇺🇸-backed Armed Forced of the Philippines. We can carry on these martyrs’ legacy by moving in steadfast solidarity with the people of Negros Island, all Philippines, and all oppressed peoples of the world!! I am gratefully getting what i need to mourn and transform grief into action—shoutout my people❤️‍🔥 so if you feel spurred to act: read up on what happened via @anakbayanusa + please follow Liyang’s work and consider contributing~ imperialism tangibly means $20 in the U.S. is worth about $80 in the Philippines, so one lunch out here could pay a yearlong scholarship for an activist’s child over there (coordinated by our education campaign). You can also support by making art for us to sell, or bringing us to your institution to give a talk or workshop about the situation of land defenders in the Philippines ~ just email [email protected] At the same time in my artist world: i returned to theatre after seven years…with my directorial debut?! I wanna devote a future post to this incredible opportunity ~ but quickly - thank you @dianawalksearth , @chuangstage , @freshinktheatre , cast & creative team for trusting me to guide this beautiful work. It is a joy to create art as cultural propaganda. Come see what we mean: this Wednesday thru Sunday with livestream on Saturday evening! Link in me profile 💐

Blessings… I received an email on Friday from curator @jasper_a_sanchez that a producer for the program Chronicle WCVB Channel 5 in Boston reached out to the Triennial. He is producing a piece for TV about one of the Mass Humanities 250 Grants that support forums to tell the story of Mark, Phillis, and Phebe. He came across my project The Resurrection of Mark, Phillis, and Phebe created for Lot Lab and the documentary of me speaking and the processional, and asked @thetriennial for some of that footage and audio to include as an inspiring end to the segment. This Chronicle feature will air Tuesday February 24th at 7:30 pm on Chronicle (WCVB5) TOMORROW PLEASE tune in! I am so grateful to the ancestors Mark, Phillis and Phebe for allowing me to share their story with the beautiful installation created just for them. I’m grateful to everyone who visited the sculpture, who took part in the processional and other rituals we held for these ancestors. I am honored and proud that my work will be recognized as part of this Chronicle segment that will continue to bring their story to life. Mark, Phillis and Phebe were human beings enslaved by John Codman. Their story is one of great heartbreak. The installation created for them was an opening of a portal for healing for their souls. Mark, Phillis, and Phebe have communicated with me through folks with special abilities that they are very happy with the sculpture, very happy with the time we all spent with them. May their names, their stories, their history live on forever. Say their names. Mark. Phillis. And Phebe. Ase’ and Amen. Thank you @marleneboyette for assisting with the channel 5 logo. i’m excited to guide rituals Saturday October 4 from 3-4:30 at @bpleastboston ~ here’s the official deets… ❤️‍🔥salamat Tieanna and Dory for organizing this 📚 bayot, ang lugar mo’y sa pakikibaka : queer, your place is in the revolution — this is a phrase proudly shared by queer activists in the Philippines today. Blending oral histories and living traditions of batok, kalis, pangalay, and organizing for true sovereignty in the Philippines, mica rose invites us to play like we belong in the revolution. In this highly participatory event of ritual activities and stories, you are invited to breathe, stretch, swing bamboo swords, and dance like the water you are — then together we will draw maps to express kinship and imagine liberation. Please wear loose, breathable clothing that allows for movement :) my portrait by @fedaeid | flyer by me This workshop is part of ReCloaking : ReCircling — an event series re-indigenizing public spaces with traditional arts & ecological knowledge — rooted with cattail screens made by @elizabethjamesperry (who will be displaying alongside my workshop). ReCloaking: ReCircling is supported by the New England Foundation for the Arts’ Public Art for Spatial Justice program, with funding from the Barr Foundation and the Fund for the Arts at @nefa_arts . #FilipinoRituals #SaturdayAfternoon #PublicLibrary
