One of our favorite shoots to date! @giantbicycles gave us the opportunity to create this commercial for their new Pursuit aero helmet that screams fast, fast, fast. How did we do it? Lots of pre-production and planning. With only a few weeks to plan this entire shoot, which also had other elements beyond this helmet, we worked closely with @jeffclarkphotographs and the team at Giant to come up with the concept and props we needed to make it happen. Lets just say we have become masters with spray paint and building custom wooden boxes/light tables last minute. The first day was all product in studio. Heavily inspired by F1 and how they sometimes showcase their cars on top of light platforms, we used the light box that we built to elevate the helmet and make it feel like futuristic art work while featuring its designs and technologies. Day two was a full day with our athlete _mr.ayala. Using a trainer, projector and pixel chasing effects with the Astera Titan Tubes we were able to achieve a high-tech, fast paced feel that the helmet deserves. We also had a few other trickery elements and used a thermal camera and an Xbox Kinect to create some unique visual effects. While all this was happening we had another team in France lead by @drozphoto capturing on location support footage to add real speed to the piece. Post is were the magic happened. Our team spent a lot of time dialing things in with VFX, line removals, compositing, great editing and sound design by @ryanscotthansen , and we even snuck in an AI shot that @jamesprola was able to create. Three days. Two studio builds. One long day on location. All about movement — and the discipline behind it. “How do we create a compelling and engaging filmabout finding the balance between technical performance and its design in a performance running kit?” That was the question we had to first ask ourself when the team at @runinrabbit ’s approached us to create this film for the new Cadence Kit. One of the main challenges initially was how to show majority of the kit not on a runner in a studio setting so we had to get creative to figure out ways to capture loose fabric without a body modeling it for every shot. This consisted of 600fps slow motion fabric drops, 90lbs of glass being hung from motion control turntables, lasers, lots of fishing line, mannequins, probe lens, super8mm film and a talented gaffer who could add unique lighting effects. In the end, we are proud of our vision and how we were able to achieve every shot in this quick film. Big thanks to the rabbit team for trusting us to bring this to life. The team at Giant approached us with this fun yet challenging project to help them create a story based commercial while highlighting their high-tech headlight systems. ⁠ ⁠ The Challenge: ⁠ When and how to shoot a bike light? Do you shoot in the day when you have the most time? Or do you shoot in the dark but lose all surrounding elements with a very bright light?⁠ ⁠ The Answer: ⁠ You shoot for about 1.5 hours sunrise and sunset for three days straight. ⁠Its been fun to get out and do some person work lately. For this shoot I wanted to feature an off-road vehicle with the Odin Guard Faraday Backpack by @missiondarkness . My friend @⁠denkensohn was talent and we used his beautiful 5th gen 4Runner for the vehicle. Quinns @morimotolighting headlights look pretty sweet!⁠ ⁠ I knew we needed to shoot in the evening when I could balance the headlight exposure with the ambient. After we lost some our ambient I used an Aputure 80c LED light with a small lantern tuned to a blue hue to give a little cross light. Earlier this year @farmleague asked me to shoot stills on an @allbirds campaign. Fame League was shooting the video portion and myself and @jeff_luker were shooting the stills. ⁠ ⁠ Throughout the day our team worked closely with @emilytatedesign the Senior Art Director at Allbirds.
