It's been a minute :) this past year I've been running a diy pottery studio @waveform.ceramics , showing Conversations with the Material World and conceiving of a few audio experiments, which will be exhibited as a part of Soft Tissue, a group show by the Squishy Collective at @metrolandcultures . So excited to share and spend continued quality time with the minds and ideas behind Soft Tissue.... Step into a circle of sculptures, materials, films, sounds and texts that offer and open up gestures, rituals and ideas for navigating precarious times. Can material be used to metabolise harm? Can physical processes help us sense inner emotional worlds? What constitutes ’safe’ touch’? How can touch be used to rehearse different ways of being and doing? Can a text be tactile…and why should it be? The Squishy Collective are a research group-circle-coven who formed in April 2021 and have been meeting online ever since, convened by artist and Metroland studio resident Becky Lyon. Some sweet shots of me material feeling with Conversations with the Material World, a touring interactive audio installation that has been exhibited with @soundscenefest at @hirshhorn , @yerbabuenagardenssf and @gallery_51 , created in collaboration with @lizdeliseband @waveform.ceramics @selenaloo @dczeey and @oaksmithfurniture . Each sculpture is accompanied by a narrative soundscape and yes, you're allowed to touch the art. What a whirlwind. Thank you @walkawayhouse for hosting me this spring for the Tend Residency and @raina_simone for being the best residency-mate one could ask for. North Adams, I'll miss you. Off to Philly to see Liz (our sound designer and my east coast bestie). Can't wait to share what I've been working on with my @waveform.ceramics community *and* get going with sound again. Props to Wylie, Carolyn & Ben's lil kiddo, who once again shows us that children know what's up and will always kick off the fun when clay is in the room!

Last night Walkway residents visited @massmoca for #openstudios by @assets4artists with artists from @oolitearts ! I loved hearing everyone share more about their process - open studios are a great opportunity to ask an artist what was difficult, what was enduring and what was surprising about their journey with a concept or strategy. Really grateful to have overlapped, if just for a few weeks, with the brilliant members of this collective. @_kinyobi_ with the chalk and large-scale portraits of loved ones, @joshjeanb with the cinematic frolicing joy of Black men, @edisonpenafielstudio with Equadorian masks / self-portaiture @monicatronica with the textures and overlays of multiple identities @roscoebthicke with an exploration of fatherhood @nadayart with an honoring of/preservation of banned books @amandallinares with the deconstruction of a flag @beccamccharen with oceanic climate optimism @cehumesjr with elegant observational etchings and honoring of Black women throughout history @thomasbils with non-narrative, figurative paintings transporting us somewhere unknown

I fell in love with Taryn Simon's The Pipes today @massmoca . 11 structures ripe with kinesthetic, acoustic and visual play. I went in all 11 and sang a bit, under clouds and sunshine. Rain from last night coated each floor ✨💦✨ Collected some sound for some upcoming projects 🎧🙃

Another residency update, yesterday was snack-centric and included a hike with @walkawayhouse . I'm sleeping more than I've ever slept and my nervous system feels like it's regulating in ways I haven't felt in a long time.
