Today is the opening of Soft Tissue: Feeling Through Precarious Times. It's opening at the worst of times in a terrible week. You'll find no answers, solutions or end points here. Instead, we humbly offer gestures, conversation-starters, practices and invitations as offerings to find companionship and navigate the stickiness of our current moment/s. All are very warmly welcome to come dwell, whip-round, have a quick glance or a slow graze. There will be space to sit with your own thoughts, things to read, hot tea to sip, prompts to think on. The exhibition is open from Saturday 25 Nov - Sunday 10 inclusive full opening times are detailed on the Metroland Website. Opening night is tonight, Friday 24th Nov from 6-8pm - all are welcome, pls sign up on Eventbrite if you can so we can ensure we cater for you. We have lovingly crafted a host of events if gathering is your medicine right now - come be still, create, breathe, freeze, flow, knit, knot, cook up, question'n'croissant with us. The whole exhibition and programme has been a generous labour of love and learning because we have found much nourishment and solidarity within in our closed group and wanted to open up and share a piece of that with others. In Touch With Ice, Following The Melt Sat 25 2023, 2.30pm-3.30pm @metrolandcultures London 🧊 Join researcher Anastasia (A) in the Soft Tissue space for a haptic writing moment - in touch with an ice cube and its many stories. 🧊 During the session, we will engage with ice, this terrestrial trickster and materially queer body that floats the oceans and cracks rocky landscapes but immediately shapeshifts and escapes under the touch of one’s warm palms. 🧊 In Touch With Ice invites to be in literal and figurative touch with an ice cube. Together, we will spend a haptic writerly moment with this crystalline crumble of frozen water and attune to its stories of interconnectedness, queer time, disappearance and escape condensed in it. How does an ice cube sound? And if it does, is its song about destruction or transformation? What does its slippery touch tell about boundaries and agencies of bodies we live? 🧊 In Touch With Ice is an exercise in noticing politics happening not only during the street protests and in parliament meetings but under the tips of our fingers. It is an exercise in noticing the politics of touch, our imaginaries of what touch is and does and what it may yet do. Next up in the bumper edition of healing, soothing, joy-juicing offerings from the @SquishyCollective : Intestinal Knitting Sunday, 3 December 12:00 - 16:00 GMT @metrolandcultures #kilburn #brent #london With our freestyler @rosina.godwin ! 🧶 Join artist Rosina Godwin in an experimental practical workshop, combining free knitting or crochet with soft sculpture. 🧶 Intestinal Knitting asks questions and disrupts the hierarchy-of-the-arts-and-guts in a workshop combining the feminine, the 'homely' craft of knitting and entrails! 🧶 The workshop focuses on creating three dimensional tubes, using either flat or double pointed needles, shaping through increasing and decreasing, plus other techniques such as crochet. Although the emphasis is on creating experimental artwork, many of the techniques could be adapted for practical purposes. 🧶 The session is very informal, with attendees encouraged to explore materials and make their own discoveries – there is no right or wrong way, only a vast range of possibilities!
