Join us tomorrow - Monday, May 18 - in Sacramento for the Mother’s Movement March at the California State Capitol to demand child safety, family preservation and reunification for all. @startingoverinc.ca @fir4e_org @everydayheroes_la @anewwayoflifela @timeforchangefoundation the Family Reunification, @allofusornone Equity and Empowerment Project (FREE) and #communitydefenders At a 10 a.m. rally at Capitol Park and during a public hearing in room 437 from 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m. inside the Capitol, families from across the state will present a comprehensive policy platform, calling on state legislators to radically transform “child protective services” - more accurately called the “family policing system” - into a continuum of care, dignity and justice for all children and parents. California continues to have the largest number of youth in foster care and the largest number of people impacted by separation from their children. The family policing system has failed to protect children, the majority of who continue to leave foster care without a high school diploma, stable mental health or health care, housing or employment. Furthermore, thousands of parents and extended family members are unfairly and permanently removed from children’s lives. The system maintains racial disparities at all levels and continues to criminalize poverty and prioritize profit. Furthermore, the “child welfare system” is built on centuries of family separation through the genocide of indigenous communities, removal of Native American children to boarding schools and adoptions outside their culture and communities, the destruction of Black families through slavery and segregation, and the adoption, detention and deportation of immigrant youth. @lovestreetsca @indigenous_chicana @allofusornone @allofusornonelosangeles @anewwayoflifela @lovestreetsca @sisterwarriorsfreedom @gaknew @captain.under_pants @indigenous_chicana @urban_socialservices @janetcrod @m_galindo92 @wardanncheryl @oohbaby39 #childwelfare #childprotectiveservices #familypreservation #reunification

Happy #mothersday to all the invisible moms, and struggling moms, the pack lunches and make snacks from scratch moms, the work two jobs moms and never give up moms. Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms who fight every day to find and reunite with their children taken by so-called “child protective services” and “child welfare” systems that prioritize separation and adoption of child and family healing and restoration.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the #moms whose loved ones were murdered that speak out to prevent violence, and to all the moms who fight for every woman to choose when or if to be a mom.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms who run thousands of miles and cross dangerous #borders to give their kids a better life, and to all the moms raising children in #refugee camps.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms in #prison who love their children through costly phone calls and occasional visits, and to all the moms who have children in prison and fight for decades to bring them home.

Happy Mother's’Day to all the nurse moms caring for babies in the NICUS, and to all the daycare moms who other moms rely on.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms who go hungry to feedtheir children.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the women superheroes who nurture, guide, protect, and love so deeply💐... whether as mothers, aunts, teachers, mentors, caregivers, or fur mamas, the strength, compassion, and devotion that our nurturers pour into us & others shape lives in countless beautiful ways. The world is softer, wiser, and stronger because of the love given by strong women. Give em their flowers, always 💛💛💛 Watts, CA📍 Process shots of my mural for @sisters_of_watts @lovestreetsca @everydayheroes_la Thank you @_10_88_ for the flicks 🙏🏻📸

Production has started on @everydayheroes_la mural to honor the life and legacy of internationally respected interventionist and peace builder Dr. Aquil Basheer. @gaknew @findacan_app has captured his spirit 100%. The mural is going up at The Stentorian building on Vernon in South Central Los Angeles @thebuildprogram - HQ to The Build Program, Maximum Force Enterprises and Professional Community Intervention Training Institute (P.C.I.T.I.), all opportunities that Aquil initiated. So many of us were lucky to have been trained by Aquil - known as our “COMMANDER” - through the Professional Community Intervention Training Institute (P.C.I.T.I.) Aquil @aquilbasheer3 was a steadfast champion for all oppressed people and stood by everyone who is struggling to build safer and more just communities. He trained thousands of us to respond to local crises, interrupt violence, stop deadly rumors and prevent retaliation - all while healing hearts and transforming thinking. We hope to cover all Watts and SCLA with art. Please all writers, DM us. Let the walls speak!!! @lovestreetsca @radicalgraffiti @graffiti street @msyellowart @graff.0ne @grafftv1 @graffitigranarchists @streetkingslosangeles @misteralek

The fifth stop on this month’s @everydayheroes_la HEAL LA ROOTS TOUR was at the Malibu Lagoon State Beach where Malibu Creek flows into the Pacific Ocean. This secluded spot is home to thousands of shore birds, and sea animals living in tide pools and the open sea. Flocks of Brown Pelicans flew past us several times just feet from the water and dove for fish. The rocks were filled with colorful hermit crabs, anemones and sea urchins. Youth and their parents constructed wood and flower wreaths to honor family members who were murdered, wrote messages in the sand and sent their wreaths into the ocean currents. Sometimes life hurts. Nature heals. @cssjustice @lovestreetsca @malibutimes @justiceformurderedchildren @wattsrunclub @wattsdolphins @volunteersofamericala @laurayouthla @therealsocalceasefire @cityofmalibu @lacountyyouth #losangeles #healla #wattsallstars #california #survivor

At the fourth stop on @everydayheroes_la fourth HEAL LA ROOTS TOUR we rode horses the Malibu Creek State Park. For almost everyone, this was their first time getting on a horse and they overcame fears and self-doubt to trust in themselves and trust in their horse. This is not “white-people-sh*t.” After the Civil War, 25% of cowboys in the American West were Black. Mexican-American cowboys comprised over 30% of the workforce, particularly in Texas and the Southwest. Indigenous Native American cowboys were also significant but rarely counted. Hollywood erased people of color from Cowboy culture and now most people have lost the connection to outdoor skills and our historical ties to the land and animals. The things we experienced during the HEAL L.A. Roots Tour - hiking, horseback riding, surfing, boating, gardening, making bath bombs and lotions - have been part of our history and cultures for centuries. Black, brown and indigenous communities have always survived and thrived outdoors. This land and these experiences belong to us. Even more important, reclaiming our relationship to the Earth is essential to our healing. Thank you to @maliburiders for an amazing day. @lovestreetsca @malibucreekstatepark @wattslifecarclub1979 @wattsdolphinsyouth @thats_wattsup @wattsfinestcc @sisters_of_watts @healing.out.my.emotions @malibucommunityservices @amityfdn
