Compton / Paramount, Calif: According to many out of state online talking heads and influencers, especially those that support the current administration L.A. is currently in chaos with protests or riots taking over the entire city. This is false. While the protest are serious business they are not mindless riots. They are protest and demonstrations taking place in targeted areas. Areas affected by the administrations extreme ICE raids. Yes, there is damage and violence at times but nothing that isn’t seen in any major city when a prominent sports team wins or loses. This is not an excuse but explanation from a life long Angelino who has been through more extreme disturbances that I would still not call riots. The Saturday protests took place in Paramount and Compton from the corner of Alameda and Atlantic to Alameda and Orange. So I drove the distance 2 days after the protest and saw regular streets. The only out of place thing remaining is the National Guard now stationed at the Paramount Business Center. The National Guard is currently staying at the Paramount center and will check to make sure only citizens engaging in official center business are entering the property. I asked a national guardsman if he could talk and ask questions but he politely declined and said his only superior authorized to answer questions was in Long Beach at the time. The guardsman present politely declined all questions. Excuse the shoddy videos. First clip is a tour of the area that was affected by protest on Saturday, looking fairly calm on Monday and the other is a quick video of the Paramount Business Center with National Guard at front. #ICE #Compton #paramount #la #losanageles #laiceprotests @longbeachpost @paramount_posts @comptonadvocates @turningpointcsulb

Compton / Paramount, Calif: footage taken on Monday, June 9, 2025 Excuse the poor video. The only out of place thing remaining is the National Guard now stationed at the Paramount Business Center. Los Angeles citizens are protesting and making their anger and disdain heard. There is destruction and violence at times but the reports of mindless riots are not accurate to the places I have been present at. #losangeles #Compton #Paramount #ICE #ICEprotest @longbeachpost

THE SUNDAY L.A. ICE PROTEST IN 100 PHOTOGRAPHS - Downtown Los Angeles, Calif: All photos taken on June 8, 2025: (10 of 10) : SUN GOES DOWN: As sunlight ended LAPD officers continued firing at protestors and pushing them further back from CIty Hall which had been graffitied heavily at this point. Demonstrators were fighting back with some firing fireworks and other throwing objects. As the light dimmed and the sun went down large trucks filled with Los Angeles Sheriff officers in riot gear and riot shields arrived as reinforcements. The sheriff's seemingly relieved the LAPD and began shooting much stronger flash grenades and other weapons at protestors. I began leaving as the sun went down, with one of the last things I saw being a woman desperately shouting out a pleading prayer to a seemingly christian God to protect the people while kneeling on the streets. The disturbances continued later into the night but I left the area as the sun went down. This was my (overly long) experience at the June 8, Sunday ICE protest in downtown Los Angeles. THE SUNDAY L.A. ICE PROTEST IN 100 PHOTOGRAPHS - Downtown Los Angeles, Calif: All photos taken on June 8, 2025: (8 of 10) : EXTENDED BARRAGE: The protestors continued to be aggressively shot at by officers and while demonstrators further back attacked police in different ways in retaliation the people stuck in the line suffered heavy injuries with many people shot and stuck sheltering in place. I was shot many times with only the fuchsia pink chair in front of me serving as cover. THE SUNDAY L.A. ICE PROTEST IN 100 PHOTOGRAPHS - Downtown Los Angeles, Calif: All photos taken on June 8, 2025: (7 of 10) : THE VIOLENCE CAME TO HER, POLICE LAUNCH AGGRESSIVE ASSAULT: Now on the corner of Temple and Spring Street a group of people including a woman were thrust into the action while waiting for the bus. The woman stayed on the bench waiting while chaos erupted around her. Protestors formed a newer and presumably stronger barrier line from taken and scrounged objects. While a larger crowd hung back further down Spring Street the line of protesters holding down the barrier and facing off directly with police were soon assaulted by a very aggressive attack by police with non-stop shooting with stronger rubber rounds. As a result of the very violent and non-stop shooting I had to take cover among the protesters for an extended period where I witnessed several protesters get hit by rounds while near me. Some protestors were hit in the face and began bleeding. I myself was hit by these stronger and more painful rounds twice, once on my though and once on my leg. THE SUNDAY L.A. ICE PROTEST IN 100 PHOTOGRAPHS - Downtown Los Angeles, Calif: All photos taken on June 8, 2025: (6 of 10) CROWD SPLITS, FIRE STARTS: To the right of where the protestors were facing off against the officers of Temple Street black smoke began to form signaling a fire. As stated, at this point the larger crowd had broken up into other crowds while being pushed back. I would later learn the smoke was from Waymo cars being set on fire but I did not see or know this at the time. However for the protestors on Temple Street, their attention was focused on the LAPD officers pushing them back with less lethal rounds. After a faceoff that lasted several minutes and resulted in dozens if not hundreds of less lethal bullets and casings littering the floor the horse mounted officers returned and along with a line of officers shooting rounds began another aggressive push, successfully moving back the protestors onto Spring Street. On Spring Street, in front of city hall where their march started protestors formed another barrier line with more scrounged, taken and found objects. THE SUNDAY L.A. ICE PROTEST IN 100 PHOTOGRAPHS - Downtown Los Angeles, Calif: All photos taken on June 8, 2025: (5 of 10) AGGRESSIVE PUSH BACK ON HORSEBACK: The LAPD mounted platoon began very quickly and very violently pushing the protestors back up East Temple Street toward City Hall where the march began. The officers on horses aggressively charged demonstrators, nearly trampolining a few people. The officers or horseback were joined by a dedicated line of on foot officers armed with large, neon green less lethal guns that shoot foam bullets. These officers were shooting indefinitely at the crowds and at times running at them. After being pushed back toward city hall, protests began forming a barrier shield line out of found objects in an attempt to hold the line. At this point however the crowd had been broken down into smaller crowds with officers successfully splitting the crowd up while pushing them back with some crowds going down Main and Los Angeles street away from my location and view. Protests began to aggressively fight back and attack officers with fireworks and other objects. Officers then began a full on assault of the protestors shield barrier line with a barrage of less lethal rounds being shot for what felt like minutes. THE SUNDAY L.A. ICE PROTEST IN 100 PHOTOGRAPHS - Downtown Los Angeles, Calif: All photos taken on June 8, 2025: (4 of 10) SLIGHT CALM BEFORE STORM, HORSES ARRIVE: For an extended period of times protesters remained in the X- shaped intersection on Alameda and Temple Street with the Northbound and Eastbound routes to those respective streets blocked. Protestors in the middle of the crowd began to peacefully protest in a manner of ways including impromptu group dances and chants. However, on both the Alameda North front and the Temple East front groups of protesters stood in front of officer lines and regularly challenged them. The challenges and engagements ran the gambit with many insulting and wishing ill on the officers in a multitude of languages while another attempting to appeal to the officers humanity. A common discussion point among demonstrators was the fact that many of the LAPD officers clashing with protestors were Latino or appeared to be. Protestors remained in the intersection for a period of time. Police then escalated their tactics and brought out the LAPD mounted Platoon. Offices on horseback began aggressively pushing the crowds back toward West Temple Street where the crowd orginally came from. THE SUNDAY L.A. ICE PROTEST IN 100 PHOTOGRAPHS - Downtown Los Angeles, Calif: All photos taken on June 8, 2025: (3 of 10) BLOCKING ACCESS: It became a skirmish on the Northern corner of Temple and Alameda Street with police shooting rubber, foam and other less lethal rounds at the crowd of protestors and while they defied, mocked and retaliated. Very suddenly more LAPD officers began mobilizing to form a secondary line and block access to Temple Street going East. Police formed a tight line, now on two fronts, North Alameda Street and East Temple Street leaving protesters milling around the open intersection and dividing their attention between the two fronts. THE SUNDAY L.A. ICE PROTEST IN 100 PHOTOGRAPHS - Downtown Los Angeles, Calif: All photos taken on June 8,2025: (2 of 10) ESCALATION: The police continued to hold the line, preventing protestors from continuing North of Alameda Street. With tensions already flared, individuals in the crowd began take different approaches, most visibly some people began hurling insults and at times objects at the police in retaliation and while others attempted to minimize the violence and aggression. In efforts to push the crowds further back and partially away from the LA ACC Veterans Affairs building, which had been graffitied, police began aggressively pushing back eventually shooting more less lethal rounds at protestors and press alike. While some attempted to calm the crowd others continued fighting police. Officers responded with another round of indiscriminate shooting at the crowd. THE SUNDAY L.A. ICE PROTEST IN 100 PHOTOGRAPHS - Downtown Los Angeles, Calif: All photos taken on June 8,2025: (1 of 10) PEACEFUL START: I arrived on the corner of W. 1st Street and N. Spring Street around 2 p.m. A crowd gathered peacefully in front of Los Angeles city hall on Spring Street growing larger minute by minute. The crowd then began marching toward Temple Street where they turned East and marched relatively peacefully until they reached the X-shaped intersection of Temple and Alameda. As protestors attempted to continue marching Northbound on Alameda Street Police drew a hard line. They would not allow protestors to move any further. Stopped on the corner of Temple and Alameda the crowd grew agitated and tense and words were exchanged with Los Angeles Police Department officers. With police maintaining the line the crowd grew even more restless until police began to shoot less lethal rounds, at times indiscriminately into the crowd in an attempt to push them back. Many photographers and other press were hit with less lethal rounds including myself. After successfully pushing the protestors a couple dozen feet the police temporarily disengaged and attempted to hold the line again.
