I am honored and beyond excited to officially be taking up the reigns as Editor-in-Chief of the @lbcurrent for the next year. I look forward to leading the next generation of editors and reporters at this historic student-run publication as we continue to carry the torch forward into a brand new renaissance era for the Current. Yesterday, I graduated from @elcaminoedu and officially finished my one and a half year run as editor-in-chief for @eccunion . 🎉🥲 This fall I return to the program as a reporter and next year I move on to a brand new journey. After going from a music major, to business administration and taking time off of college due to illness and depression, I enrolled at El Camino College and started my journey as a journalism major during the fall 2018 semester. That was the best decision I EVER made in my entire life. What was seemingly impossible to me has been achieved! At times I felt like I would never be able to graduate, especially after setbacks we all faced during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic made it harder to focus on my education. Now we’re here! Leading an entire news team has been the greatest dream come true and I owe everything to the incredible team that has been built and cultivated over the past year and a half with a vision that started with @itsecohen , @captain.under_pants and myself at the helm. This #DreamTeam has become like a family away home and the newsroom is my safe haven. I am forever grateful to this team and to our advisers @stefaniefrith , @msprompt , Nguyet Thomas, Jessica Martinez and Jack Mulkey for equipping me with all the tools I needed to succeed and for believing in me throughout this entire ride! Thank you to our editors, reporters, photographers, illustrators and designers who gave up countless hours to ensure that this publication puts out the best content that it can. Thank you God and thank you to my family most of all for standing by me! I am beyond thrilled and excited to be passing the torch to @captain.under_pants as the new editor-in-chief of @eccunion . If I were to tell the budding musician Khoury at 20 years old that he would become a journalist by the time he turns 30…he would pause, look confused, then smile and say “That makes perfect sense.” As I reflect back on my 20’s during these last few days of 29, I remember a kid that often felt lost, alone and depressed. After falling out of love from pursuing a career in music, I struggled on for many years through illness, surgery, loss, tragedy and heartbreaks. My discovery of journalism completely transformed my life for the better. 2023 alone has given me so many great opportunities and opened many doors for me that I didn’t even know were possible. I owe so much of my current success and happiness now to El Camino College and its journalism department. @ecwarriorlife and @eccunion have truly felt like a home away from home. The newsroom is my safe haven and I am proud of our amazing dream team that’s been built over the past year. I’m left with a bittersweet feeling as I prepare to leave this chapter of my life behind at 30 years old and turn the page onto a brand new journey.
