Who needs the music press? Is there even such a thing any more? Now that anyone with a TikTok or reels can be a music critic, historian, recommender, commentator or gossip-monger, who decides which voices matter, or do we let the algorithm take control?!? Our esteemed panel will put their wealth of experience into discussing these and more questions (your questions) about how grassroots culture can communicate, connect and keep its identity amongst the information blizzards and constraints of the 2020s music eco-system.
As well as the panel discussion on the night expect a bar, some DJs and a very nice cosy vibe indeed! - Tickets are limited and free but via a tiny charitable donation of your choosing.

In Jan I gently crept back onto @NoodsRadio , after a 2 yr break from my show.
My new slot on Noods is the 4th Friday of each month, 3-4pm, aka the perfect time to play some heaters to warms you up for the weekend 💣
I kept things quite simple for my first show back, and just played through some of the tunes I played in my Berghain set, as lots of people have been asking me what I played. I spoke a bit about my slow return to music after having a baby, and why I played the tracks I played.

📚 THE GLUTTON
🤢 this book…. it’s slightly mental. Based on the ‘true myth’ of Tarare, an 18th-century French man who couldn’t stop eating, and would eat, literally, anything. There were some proper gross-out passages in this, but I really enjoyed it. Beautifully written, super immersive, very funny, and surprisingly deep. Tip!
📚 DEMON COPPERHEAD
omg Barbara is a genius. The story follows the first 20-ish years of the life of Demon - a boy growing up in poor, rural Virginia, in the midst of the opioid crisis. Months later, and I’m still actually missing reading this book and wondering about Demon.... BTW, the bones of the story are based on David Copperfield. I’ll say again though, I actually think Kingsolver is a genius. Absolutely brilliant.
📚 SEA STATE
I wanted to read this because I have a weird fascination with offshore oil rigs (and other mega structures eg. container ships, large submarines etc.), and I was intrigued to learn more about them from a woman’s perspective, in an environment that’s almost 100% male. Alas, it was more about the affair she had with one of the workers, who was wildly unsuited to her, and less about the engineering + social structures created in these in-between spaces. Still, a very, very decent read.
📚 THE GUEST
Equal parts screaming at the main character for all the insanely bad choices she is making, whilst also very much enjoying the wild ride. Following the journey of a young escort ‘stranded’ on Long Island. Loads of fun.
📚 I LOVE YOU BUT I’VE CHOSEN DARKNESS
No thanks. One of very few books that I have given up on. Drove me mad! Read in a time when I was feeling mentally fragile and triggered by the themes of new motherhood, so perhaps I would not have been so harsh had I been in a different state of mind/phase of life.
📚 DAVID COPPERFIELD
Read this purely because I was curious after reading Demon Copperhead. I really enjoyed it, but then I am a Dickens fan already. A satisfyingly happy ending too, which felt right and not contrived. Solid, life-affirming stuff.

It’s been really humbling to look back over the years and reflect on all the amazing releases and creative talent that have contributed towards Tectonic; to think about the parties that shaped dubstep as it grew and mutated - and all the changes that have happened across the musical spectrum, as well as for the label in that period of time.

When Tectonic started back in 2005, I couldn’t imagine that it would grow and have such a lasting impact -and that gives me confidence about the future too. Being able to put out a killer compilation this year that connected artists older and newer to Tectonic, felt like one of the best ways to mark the moment in time - keeping the other eye looking forwards. It’s all given me a much-needed boost of enthusiasm, and I’m truly grateful to everyone who has been a part of that. I especially want to thank Lizzy for being the solid rock that helps to keep everything on track and happening when it should do, I think we make a great team!

I’ve felt so lucky to be a point on the journey of some artists I really love this year, thank you for trusting us to release your music. There’s this wonderful collision of hedonism, but with a purity and wholesomeness. It works.
There were magic moments when everyone was so locked in, almost moving as one being.
My anxiety before my set almost completely overwhelmed me. But, I was ready to give, and the dancers were so ready to receive what I had to share.
Sticking true to myself whilst also honouring the space and time that I was playing in. It was euphoric to play music that moves me. What a privilege.
Some of the tracks I thought were most risky to play are actually what seemed to have resonated the most with individuals. I’m so thankful for the
feedback I’ve had - both in the moment and in the days since.

I also did the whole night approx 95% sober, so I ‘only’ lasted til 7am. Must try harder next time lol.

On our way to Berlin for tonight’s @tectonicrecordings takeover of @reef_berlin at Berghain. I’m way more used to being behind the scenes with Tectonic stuff, so am feeling very honoured to be given the 23.59pm slot to play tonight😎 opening the main floor 🏢
I haven’t been to Berghain in 10+ yrs, so v excited to get back in, with a more mature head on myself now, hah.
Been really taking my time over planning my set, as setting the tone for the night feels important. Will I play Autechre in Berghain…. It may be so!Thank you @pinch_tectonic and @darwin_reef for the opportunity, hope I do u proud!

Was actually dreading DJing again for the first time in 18 months, but really surprised myself with how much I enjoyed this. Big thanks to a brilliant b2b partner @itsroseholland , who helped make our set for @saffronrecords 10th Birthday totally joyous.
Honestly though, returning to music/clubbing since having a baby has been really hard for me - starting from sq 1 and working out what I like, who I am, and what the point of it all is again. Becoming a mum basically blew up my whole sense of identity and self-worth, but little by little am reclaiming some of that joy. Shouts to those who’ve helped me through - Big up NHS, @mothers_for_mothers , and most of all @pinch_tectonic 💗
So, got a couple more shows coming up…
TONIGHT - I’m playing a few records down everyone’s fave, the @pipeslippers from 10pm. Expect a more subdued selection, as it’s Thursday night in a pub after all, but I may not be able to resist bringing out a few more challenging sounds than they are used to ha.
14 NOV - From one end of the spectrum to the other…. I’ll be playing Berghain as part of the @tectonicrecordings x @reef_berlin night. Absolutely insane that I’ll be playing the main floor wtf. Nerves and doubt kicking in!
