Official trailer for Woodlice @woodlicefilm BAFTA Long List 2025 Can’t explain the love and appreciation I have for every single person who’s helped me bring this into the world. This film means the world to me, and I’ll cherish it forever. Woodlice is a short film based on a true story depicting grief through symbolism in both surreal and real forms, exploring relationships with grief, religion, and motherhood shot back home in Ireland. Where to even begin. I always knew I had to tell this story. But I was aware of how much of an emotional sacrifice it would be to make it. It took me many, many years to touch it as I knew it involved reliving many emotions I haven’t dared to face since losing my mother at the age of fifteen. I pledged to myself beginning the process three years ago that this film had to be as honest as possible and I was going to tell it exactly how it is. I tried to write the script several times, but every time it felt forced. It was integral that the script was my fifteen year old’s voice. And finally one day, the script was written in one go in seven hours straight. I wanted to make a film that depicts how grief actually feels. A raw and genuine feeling that people who’ve been through it could look at and relate to those niche, intense feelings you go through where absolutely nothing makes sense. Thank you Robbie Ryan, you were the only person I trusted for this and I’m so thankful for you.
