Dr Úna FitzPatrick lays out her ambitious vision of a more nature diverse Ireland and explains what bees want.
If we can reimagine the dandelions and daisy’s, vetch and furze nettles and Ivy, as the vital building blocks and pillars of nature, corner stones of our natural tapestry, instead of weeds, or messy verges, we can have more nature, we just need to allow it more room.

@padraicfogarty has been a very vocal advocate for nature and ecosystems in Ireland, he is deeply knowledgeable about Ireland Nature crisis and the positive actions and solutions to the problems at hand.
Pádraic’s work over the past 2 decades for Irish nature has seen him lead the @irishwildlifetrust , produce the seminal book ‘Whittled Away’ and the deeply researched ‘Shaping New Mountains’ that sets out ambitious visions of a wilder future.
The full episode is now live to watch or listen to on YouTube along with a selection of shorter videos from the episode.
Stunning Art work by @big.hippo.art for the Shaping new mountains cover art, and Eimear Fogarty, for the cover art of Whittled away that we created the little animation inspired by.

Our first short film from the project will be released on our YouTube next week. It focuses on Richard Nairn. Richard has spent over 50 years working as an ecologist and has published over 10 books on Irish ecosystems and ecology. His recent book ‘Future Wild’ is a wide eyed look at the people and projects working on Nature restoration. #ireland #nature #futurewild #postwild #irishnature
Over the past few months, @sonder_visuals , @phil_jebb and I have working on a Nature Podcast project.
Today we are finally launching @post_wild_podcast , a weekly podcast and short film project across social media, exploring modern Irish nature.
Across the country there are extraordinary people dedicating their lives to understanding and restoring nature, ecologists, naturalists, researchers, land stewards and deep thinkers who care profoundly about the future of the living world here.
Many of them have generously given their time, their knowledge and their stories to this project. I’m deeply grateful to every one of them so far.
The people asking the difficult questions. The people studying ecosystems most of us never notice. The people imagining what a richer, wilder Ireland could look like.
At the same time, we wanted to celebrate the beauty that still surrounds us, from pollinators in hedgerows to seabird cliffs roaring with life.
Because even in a depleted landscape, Ireland is still full of wonder.
My hope is that this project helps make Irish nature, and the people championing it, a little more visible, a little more accessible, and a little more loved. Each week we will be posting episodes and short nature films focusing on Nature Restoration around the Island.

A few years of slow, steady work…
Here’s a little look at how our home has changed on the outside.
We’ve chipped away at it bit by bit between everything else, learning as we went, making mistakes, while bringing it back to life.
Still lots to do — but we’re really proud of how far it’s come.

Took a long step back from social media these past few years.
I find myself quietly overwhelmed with gratitude: for our wild little two-year-old Phoenix, for my beautiful wife Sarah and the new journey about to begin.
Very thankful for family.
