Happy Earth Day, Los Angeles! Sustainability doesn't have to be complicated. Here are 5 simple actions you can take today to protect our city: Protect Our Pipes: Only flush the 3 Ps (Pee, Poop, and Paper). Even if wipes say "flushable," they can clog our sewer system. Garden with Mulch: Keep your garden healthy and save water by using free mulch from LASAN. It’s the perfect way to give back to your soil! Swap for Reusables: Use reusable bottles and bags to reduce waste at the source and keep our oceans clean. Recycle Right: Ensure all bottles and cans are empty and dry before they go into your blue bin. Dispose of Hazardous Waste Safely: Never put batteries, electronics, or old paint in your bins. Take them to a local SAFE Center to keep toxic materials out of our environment. Let’s make every day Earth Day in Los Angeles! 👊 Click the link in our bio to find your nearest free mulch pick-up location or SAFE Center.

This week we celebrated the groundbreaking of the Glendale Hyperion Bridge Project 🎉🏗️ The Glendale Hyperion Bridge Improvement Project represents over 20 years of development and collaboration between the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering (BOE) and our partners at Caltrans HQ , Council District 4, Council District 13, along with other agencies at the Federal, State & Local levels 🤝 FUN FACT: This nearly 100-year-old bridge was completed in 1929, well before the LA River was encased in concrete. It has been featured in movies over the years and is even replicated at Disney’s California Adventure 🎬✨ This project has truly been a team effort, from planning to design and implementation. We want to thank our agency partners and the residents of Council Districts 4 & 13 who were involved in discussions over the years to help shape this design 👷‍♀️👷‍♂️ A special acknowledgement to our Deputy City Engineer Katherine Doherty, Commissioner Faith Mitchell, Councilmember Nithya Raman, Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez, and our partners at Caltrans. We’re looking forward to the ribbon cutting ceremony ✂️🎀 #WeAreLABOE #BOE

Our Urban Forestry team has a huge passion for what they do. They know our City trees dramatically improve Los Angeles by acting as essential infrastructure that enhances environmental health, public safety, and quality of life for Angelenos. Fighting the Urban Heat Island Effect and Energy Savings (Cooling and reducing energy costs). Air and Water Quality (Cleaning air, managing stormwater, recharging aquifers). Psychological and Economic Value (Stress reduction, property values, equity, and aesthetics). LA is a beautiful city and our trees make it even better! Let’s all work together and make it great! @lacitydpw

Ana Tabuena-Ruddy, Assistant Director and Chief Sustainability Officer, was honored to represent StreetsLA at Metro’s Earth Day Heat Awareness event this week. StreetsLA helps build a cooler LA through STAP transit shelters and shade structures, tree planting, and providing support for planting partners expanding canopy citywide. Together, we’re creating more shade, stronger transit access, and healthier neighborhoods. 🌎🌳🚌 #EarthDay #LosAngeles #atyourservice #Metro #LACMTA UrbanForestry Shade Transit ClimateResilience @metrolosangeles @lacitydpw

We process approximately 20,000 tons of green waste annually from our tree care operations, including clearing up after tree emergencies and removing dead or diseased wood. This commitment to sustainable circularity ensures we turn tree waste into valuable mulch for the community. You can pick up free mulch at: Location: 11701 Blucher Ave, Granada Hills Open: Mon through Fri, 7am to 1pm Our mulch is used for city landscaping, and some trimmings, like Eucalyptus and Ficus, have even been shared with the @lazoo to feed animals. @lacitydpw
