Building better roads together 🌍🚧
Last week, we proudly celebrated the completion of a new district road (D4119) from Omulondo to Oshuuli in the Ohangwena Region. The official opening was officiated by the Minister of Works and Transport, Hon. Veikko Nekundi, and the Governor of the Ohangwena Region, Hon. Kadiva Hamutumwa, marking a significant milestone in connecting communities. 🇳🇦🤝🇩🇪
This milestone was achieved through the Namibian German Development Cooperation with a total investment of NAD 53 million – combining local labour-based techniques and community involvement to maximize local content. The Roads Authority, in partnership with KfW, carries out these projects by collaborating with Namibian consultants, contractors, and local communities, thereby maximizing local involvement. 👏
This road is part of the 6th phase of the “Labour-Based Road Construction Programme” which will build 250 km of roads across the Ohangwena, Omusati, and Oshikoto Regions. 😍
We are proud to mark 30 years of implementing this Programme in collaboration with our Namibian partners – Ministry of Works and Transport, Roads Authority and Road Fund Administration. 🎉
Here's to building roads, connecting communities, and driving development! ✨

Strengthening conservation and tourism in Namibia's national parks 🎉
On 28 March 2026, the Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism (MEFT), together with the National Planning Commission (NPC), the German Embassy and KfW, officially inaugurated newly constructed and upgraded infrastructure across the Etosha, Hardap, and Bwabwata National Parks, representing investments worth NAD 166 million! 👏
Co-funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) through KfW, the infrastructure includes renovated park entrance gates, comfort stops, and new facilities for the Wildlife Protection Services (WPS). These upgrades will enhance park management, enrich visitor experiences, and boost wildlife protection i.e. anti-poaching efforts. 🏠🦏
The inauguration ceremony was officiated by Honourable Indileni N. Daniel, Minister of Environment, Forestry, and Tourism; Honourable Dr. Kaire Mbuende, Director General of the National Planning Commission (NPC); and His Excellency Dr. Thorsten Hutter, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Namibia.
👉 Under the Namibia National Parks Programme (NamParks), investments supported by the COVID-19 Fund have helped maintain vital operations in Namibia's protected areas, preserving the country’s unique natural heritage.
👉 The Integrated Wildlife Protection Management Project (IWPP) in collaboration with WWF Namibia has delivered new staff accommodations, offices, and upgraded infrastructure to combat wildlife crime more effectively.
This achievement highlights the strong partnership between Namibia and Germany in fostering environmental sustainability, advancing tourism, and protecting wildlife for future generations. 🌍❤️

COMMUNAL LAND: Hon Minister Indileni Daniel addressed the attendees at day two of the CBNRM conference in Windhoek on Thursday, focusing on issues surrounding communal land ownership between investors and conservancies.
The Minister highlighted the need for proper documentation when applying for land rights within conservancies to avoid future legal battles. “Very often we want to change when we have already signed the contract and that is why our contracts need legal attorney generals to look at them to see if it is correct and will serve both parties as where there are two people you need to agree” she said.
Minister Daniel further emphasized the need for the involved parties to fully understand the terms of their agreements, as this would help promote sustainable investment in the economy while mutually benefitting the communities where these Lodges are built. @ccfnam@namibia_nature_foundation@kfw_namibia@nacso_namibia1@GIZNamibia

Strengthening education and conservation 📚
KfW, on behalf of German Development Cooperation, is proudly financing the expansion of the Katima Mulilo campus at the University of Namibia (UNAM) to tackle the shortage of specialists in wildlife management and ecotourism across the SADC Region. 👏
After inaugurating the new faculty buildings, construction is now underway on accommodation facilities to provide housing for students and visiting lecturers. This development will foster international research exchange within the KAZA Region. 🏫
On the 06th of March 2026, an inception workshop was held to discuss plans for the construction of a Wastewater Treatment Plant, aiming to ensure sustainable water and sanitation infrastructure for the campus. 💧
This Project not only elevates Namibia's tertiary education sector but also benefits the entire SADC Region by training conservationists for the KAZA Transfrontier Conservation Area.

A new intern joins the local KfW Office 🎉
We are happy to welcome a new intern, Silvia, who just started at the KfW Office in Namibia.
She recently completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and Economics at the University of Mannheim, focusing on international relations. During her studies, she was actively involved in the student parliament, working on issues such as gender equality and student representation. 👏
Before joining KfW, she gained practical experience through internships at the German Embassy in Tokyo and the policy advisory consultancy 365 Sherpas.
In her free time, she enjoys travelling, exploring arts and culture, and playing tennis. 🥎
Welcome, Silvia! 👋

World Wildlife Day 🎉
On #worldwildlifeday, we celebrate the incredible biodiversity that makes Namibia one of the world's most unique natural treasures. From vast deserts to thriving wetlands, protecting these ecosystems means protecting our shared future. 🌍
The preservation and safeguarding of Namibia's natural resources remains high on the agenda of Namibian German Development Cooperation. Together, we are working to strengthen conservation efforts, protect endangered species, and support communities living alongside wildlife.
Through KfW-supported initiatives in Namibia's natural resource management sector, key projects include:
🌿 The “Namibia National Parks Programme” (NamParks) – strengthening park management and biodiversity conservation
🦏 The “Integrated Wildlife Protection Management Project” – enhancing species protection and combating wildlife crime
🤝 The “Poverty-Oriented Support to Community Conservation in Namibia” Project – empowering communities through sustainable conservation
🎓 Support to the Department of Wildlife Management and Ecotourism at the University of Namibia’s Katima Mulilo Campus – building local expertise for the future of conservation
By investing in species protection and mitigating human-wildlife conflict, we are helping ensure that Namibia's wildlife and communities can thrive together for generations to come. 👏

Strengthening conservation and community livelihoods 🎉
Beginning of February, we had the pleasure of welcoming colleagues from KfW in Frankfurt to Namibia for two final project review missions in the natural resource management sector.
👉 Week 1: “Integrated Wildlife Protection Management Project”
On behalf of German Development Cooperation, KfW, in collaboration with @wwfnamibia , has supported the establishment of an integrated wildlife protection management system for Namibia’s state-protected areas to curb poaching and safeguard its unique biodiversity. 🦏🌿
The Project focused on:
✔️ Strategic infrastructure investments
✔️ Capacity enhancement for staff
✔️ Establishment of a dedicated Wildlife Protection Service unit
👉 Week 2: “Poverty-Oriented Support to Community Conservation in Namibia”
With financial support from KfW, this Project is jointly implemented by the @ministry_of_environment_nam and the @ccfnam . It promotes the sustainable development of communal conservancies, community forests, and other CBNRM entities.
Key areas of support include:
🌱 Critical support services for conservancies
🐾 Human-wildlife conflict mitigation measures
💧 Payment for ecosystem services
These initiatives demonstrate the strong partnership between Namibia and Germany in advancing conservation, strengthening community livelihoods, and ensuring that natural resource management remains both inclusive and sustainable. 👏
