Today, the Executive Director, Dr. Wilhelmine Shivute, together with the management team of the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development, officially bid farewell to former Executive Director, Mr. Petrus Sindimba, following his transfer to the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
Mr. Sindimba was appointed as Executive Director to the Ministry of Urban and Rural Development without accounting authority in November 2025 and has been transferred to the OPM effective 01 May 2026.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Executive Director and the entire management team for the strong working relationship cultivated during his tenure at the Ministry. He further encouraged them to continue their dedicated efforts, highlighting the Ministry’s vital role in improving the lives of the country’s citizens.
Beneficiaries of the Ben Hur Rural Development Center (RDC) Rapid Rural Transformation (RRT) initiative had the opportunity to showcase their products at the Otjinene Farmers Crops Day, highlighting the program’s positive impact on local agricultural production and entrepreneurship. OKAHANDJA |Urban and Rural Development Minister, Hon. Sankwasa James Sankwasa, has encouraged the Council of Okahandja to prioritize improvements in physical infrastructure through public-private partnerships to stimulate meaningful economic growth.
The Minister made these remarks in a speech delivered on his behalf by Deputy Minister Hon. Evelyn !Nawases-Taeyele at the opening of the four-day 15th Okahandja Tourism and Trade Expo, held under the theme “Experience Okahandja: Invest, Trade & Grow.”
In his message, Hon. Sankwasa highlighted that Okahandja is uniquely positioned as a gateway town, rich in cultural heritage, strategically located, and endowed with significant tourism and trade potential. He noted that its historical importance, combined with its proximity to key economic corridors, provides a strong foundation for sustainable growth.
The Minister emphasized that urban and rural development are interconnected processes that must work together to achieve inclusive growth. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening local governance systems, promoting accountability, improving spatial planning, and supporting housing and infrastructure development.

The Ministry of Urban and Rural Development hosted a financial wellness session for its staff members in partnership with the Financial Literacy Initiative on Wednesday 29 April 2026 in Windhoek.
The session was headed by Mr Vitalis Iiyambo from the Financial Literacy Initiative, the wellness session was aimed at enhancing financial awareness and promoting sound financial decision making among employees.
The Highly engaging session covered key financial areas such as budgeting, savings, debt management, investment, credit score, insurance and taxation among others.
