World Toilet Day ,celebrated on 19 November every year, is about inspiring action to tackle the global sanitation crisis. In Namibia the consequences of insufficient access to safe sanitation are far-reaching, with practices such as open defecation in riverbeds negatively impacting health, dignity, human rights, and overall quality of life. The Namibia Census Mapping Basic Report 2019 - 2021 reveals that 43% of the population engages in open defecation, with 23% in urban areas and 65% in rural regions. The situation is particularly critical in Windhoek, home to the largest informal settlement. Due to the historical structure of Namibian towns, many of the harsh realities of the sanitation issues are hidden away from many decision makers, stakeholders and partners. To highlight the scale of the challenge and the realities of livings in poor sanitation conditions, DWN has developed a vivid an striking documentary “A TALE OF TWO CITIES,” which aims to shed light on the organization’s efforts and raise awareness about the sanitation crisis in Namibia. The documentary strives to: • Address the sanitation crisis in informal settlements. • Contribute to the national sanitation discourse and raise awareness. • Showcase the CLTS program as a viable solution. • Foster Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) behavior change. • Encourage partnerships and investments for inclusive sanitation solutions. “A TALE OF TWO CITIES,” was produced by Andy Botelle of MaMoKoBo Video and Research, renowned for the first Namibian Netflix movie “Baxu and the Giants,” sheds light on DWN’s urban CLTS program. UNICEF’s support has been pivotal in bringing this documentary to life. We are excited to premiere this documentary ,’A TALE OF TWO CITIES.’ On the 24th November 2023, aligning with World Toilet Day (19th November) and coming soon to a screen near you. Major Shout out to @namibiafilmcommission for making this premiere possible. #worldtoiletday #sanitation #dwnamibia #sanitationforall

🌍 Did you know? In Namibia, over 40% of the total population resides in informal settlements, with approximately 66% of the urban population calling these areas home. But here’s the harsh reality: many of these communities lack fundamental necessities like electricity, water, sanitation, adequate housing, and even land rights. 🏠 Addressing the Situation : At Development Workshop Namibia, we’re dedicated to addressing these pressing issues head-on. Through community-driven initiatives and advocacy efforts, we strive to improve living conditions in informal settlements. Together, we can make a difference and create a better future for all Namibians! 💡🏠 #Namibia #InformalSettlements #CommunityDevelopment #LandRights #DWNamibia —————————————————————————- Source: Centre For Affordable Housing Finance in Africa /app/uploads/2022/11/2022_English-Yearbook-compressed.pdf
