The next phase of our ongoing mentorship programme with @nationalportraitgallery went into overdrive at our Cardiff campus @unisouthwales this week with a visit from curators and photographer artists @timonbenson @marysadowling and @jasbell11 . An excellent presentation by Timon about his work followed by mentoring our second year students! They did us proud showing work from ongoing projects. He discusses his passion for art, photography and creating exhibitions and events, including the brilliant Cardiff International Festival of Photography @_ffotocymru , the next edition of which happens later this year ! Head to Linktree in bio - Where do we start with Clementine! @clementine.schneidermann We’re so excited to have her on #keepingitrealist PODCAST Clementine is a Doc Phot alumni and has been a huge part of our community !, she studied both MA and PhD with us and is a very popular Associate Lecturer, bringing her brilliant enthusiasm to mentor students.  Alongside this Clementine produces collaborative documentary work with communities in Wales and beyond, including with her colab @bleakfabulous Fashion “Ffasiwn” project with @_charlottejames_ . Her work is included in major gallery exhibitions including National Museum of Wales @museumwales and magazines including The New Yorker, Vogue Italia and Dazed. Together with Charlotte James she has produced commissioned collaborations with Alexander McQueen, Gucci, and most recently @visitwales . Clementine joined us recently to do some teaching and took part in the podcast. She discusses her passion for community, fashion and making art with us at our city centre campus @unisouthwales in Cardiff. Our Xmas exhibition event last night was a huge success and congratulations to all the exhibiting students whose work demonstrated next level ambition and creativity. You did the course and all the people and groups you collaborated with proud. The stunning theatre venue The Paget Rooms with its huge mirror ball was a fitting venue to celebrate this level of success and ambition. This exhibition was curated and managed by Dr Karin Bareman and featured photography and film work on a huge range of topics. Thanks to all organisations and individuals that supported our students. Especially Louis Prosser and team at Penarth Town Council. Thanks to all the industry friends and supporters that came out to show support, including our lovely graduates, friends and family and supporters of the course. This week has been all about networking and building industry awareness. We’ve been in London Town for the next phase of our #photoportraitnow colab with @nationalportraitgallery @a.g.talbott Students were treated to a day experiencing the work of the gallery including Insight into exhibitions including the #taylorwessingportraitprize from curator Ruby Rees-Sheridan @rubyreessheridan and team. Behind the scenes archive and catalogue experience. Meeting and learning from leading industry professional photographer Marysa Dowling @marysadowling . Our very special relationship with NPG is one of several high level industry collaboration currently running on our documentary course. Students are mentored throughout the year by curators, with the experience including the opportunity to showcase their project work at the gallery later in the year. We’ve been in London Town this week for galleries and industry experience. An ultra special highlight was experiencing the amazing @biblioteka_library . This is a unique and in many ways unusual library , housing thousands of rare and wonderful curated photography, art books, magazines and zines. Students were treated to an insight from curator and all round star @valussonov . Including sharing the many ongoing projects, events and collaborations happening in the UK and worldwide . Val is himself a DocPhot alumni, with a special passion for everything around art, photography, design, publishing, music and DIY community action. Students were able to spend time devouring this amazing resource. Great news that recent alumni @_danmoriarty has been named as ‘One To Watch’ for this year by @itsnicethat ! This is a huge deal for Dan and his outstanding documentary work and we’re very proud! Dan’s project on the Bournbrook DIY skatepark highlights the collective’s spirit while resisting stereotypical portrayals of skate culture. With a poetic approach, Daniel effortlessly and invitingly reframes subcultures as spaces of creativity, resilience and desired community.
