Opening April 17th, come see “Good Hair Day” one of my new favorite pieces I’ve made… can’t really call it a painting, or a drawing or a sculpture, because it is all of those things. 21x21” encaustic, color pencil, gouache, ink on panel, available now @madorangallery3509 link in bio
About the work:
Beauty and bedragglement. Expectation versus reality. Meeting yourself where you are. The humbling experience of being human in an idol obsessed culture. This icon accepts their chaos, embraces the awkward, and luckily is also having a good hair day.
“Not Choosing” 20x16 encaustic, color pencil and gouache on panel. A personal favorite, this one just fell right out of me, so to speak, which is always a pleasure 😅

@catamountarts Community Mural! frolic with paint and light, public participation encouraged, bring the kids! Bathe in some joyful light! Feb 22nd 11-2 and Feb 24th 1-4
via North Star Monthly, by Vlady Balevski: Community Artist and Vermont Studio Center alum JP Morrison Lans will host a series of community arts events at Catamount Arts throughout February. Morrison Lans, a Tulsa-based artist who works in a variety of media including paint, pencils, encaustic and sculpture, invites community members to join her for a show-and-tell discussion of power in objects, drop-in explorations of the interplay between color and light, a community art installation and an open studio. All events will take place in February at Catamount Arts on Eastern Avenue, except for Morrison Lans’ open studio, which will take place March 1 at 560 Railroad St.
On Sunday, Feb. 15, from 1-3 p.m., Morrison Lans will host “The Animistic Object: A Sharing of Powerful Items” at Catamount Arts. Morrison Lans, who is conducting a research project on the power of everyday objects, describes “The Animistic Object” as a “grown-up show-and-tell.” Animism is the belief that all things — plants, rocks, handiwork, tools, toys, etc. — possess their own distinct psyches. Participants are invited to bring (or simply describe) a seemingly ordinary object that has been imbued, perhaps due to emotional significance or simple repeated use, with some sort of power. Morrison Lans will facilitate a discussion of these objects, which may include a family heirloom, a rock picked up from a hike or a household tool that’s taken on meaning beyond its practical function. Are the objects blessings or burdens? Might drawing or copying them amplify or diminish their power?

Driving to Mt Field I saw this bull sleeping in a pasture, but for a moment as we drove on and I needed him to exist more, he’s the last piece I’ve done while here at @all_that_we_are_tasmania also I wish you could smell these ants, and you’re glad you can’t.
