📷 : @esfandiarisiavash @irishscreenedit @tempo_filmeditors

What a wonderful weekend in Paris for ISE! We attended the fascinating panel “Monter l’intime” (editing intimacy), where directors and editors from three films shared how they approached deeply personal and family stories and how cinema can move beyond the private to touch something universal. Özcan Vardar, first chair of Tempo, gave a thank-you on behalf of Tempo, one of the festival’s sponsors. We also had the chance to chat with LMA board members and festival organisers, exchanging stories about work and working conditions. It’s always enlightening to discover both the differences and the similarities across countries. A lovely moment was meeting Jean-François, the translator of “In Time”. LMA arranged the French subtitles for the screening, created with great care by Jean-François, who has lived and travelled in Ireland. His association, ATAA (the audiovisual translators’ association), highlighted the importance of “human intelligence” in translation. We attended the screening of “In Time” — a beautiful, poetic and moving film about Dónal Lunny, described by a young French editor as “a love letter to music.” It deeply resonated with the audience. During the Q&A, Hugh Chaloner spoke about the editing process, offering valuable insights into the film. Later, invited ISE members took to the stage to share the origins of ISE and the work we do. A huge thank you to LMA for the warm welcome and inspiring exchanges 💚 @monteurs_associes @tempo_filmeditors @southwindblows @screenguilds @hugh00 @eoinmcdon @shane_woz_ere @jackieajarvis @sarahmcteigue @mathildemuyard @julie_dupre_off @vardarozcan

At @dublinfilmfestival on Saturday, we met up with director Meghan Duffy to present the First Frame Award for Best Editing for her short film “Mixed Signals”. Huge congratulations to editors Eli O’Hanlon and Saoirse Burton for their beautiful work on this film, created while students at the @schoolofmediatudublin (TU Dublin School of Media). Mairéad McIvor, @mb_mcivor co-chair of @irishscreeneditors , served on the First Frame Jury Panel, a showcase celebrating outstanding student shorts. Awards included Best Film, Best Documentary, and Best Experimental Film. This year, for the first time, ISE were delighted to present the Best Editing Award, recognising the creative art of editing and its vital role in storytelling. At First Frame, ISE committee member Malcolm Moloney @mal.1981 also organised a panel discussion featuring ISE editors, who shared their insights and experience with emerging filmmakers. Many thanks to @adobevideo @adobeuk for sponsoring a fantastic prize — a one-year subscription — which is hugely appreciated. And a special thank you to Peggy McHale, Gráinne Humphreys, and the team at @dublinfilmfestival for having us this year. As always, the festival was amazing! #DIFF2026 #FirstFrame #FilmEditing #FilmEducation #FilmEditors #TheInvisibleArt

What a great few days in Cork! It was an honour for ISE to be part of the Cork International Film Festival on their special 70th anniversary. The opening gala screening was Saipan and we had a great chat about the editing of it with ISE Members John Murphy and Gavin Buckley at the “In the Frame: Saipan” event.
