What a wonderful weekend in Paris for ISE!
We attended the fascinating panel “Monter l’intime” (editing intimacy), where directors and editors from three films shared how they approached deeply personal and family stories and how cinema can move beyond the private to touch something universal.
Özcan Vardar, first chair of Tempo, gave a thank-you on behalf of Tempo, one of the festival’s sponsors.
We also had the chance to chat with LMA board members and festival organisers, exchanging stories about work and working conditions. It’s always enlightening to discover both the differences and the similarities across countries.
A lovely moment was meeting Jean-François, the translator of “In Time”. LMA arranged the French subtitles for the screening, created with great care by Jean-François, who has lived and travelled in Ireland. His association, ATAA (the audiovisual translators’ association), highlighted the importance of “human intelligence” in translation.
We attended the screening of “In Time” — a beautiful, poetic and moving film about Dónal Lunny, described by a young French editor as “a love letter to music.” It deeply resonated with the audience.
During the Q&A, Hugh Chaloner spoke about the editing process, offering valuable insights into the film. Later, invited ISE members took to the stage to share the origins of ISE and the work we do.
A huge thank you to LMA for the warm welcome and inspiring exchanges 💚
