It’s the 30th Anniversary of The Van, which premiered at the 49th Cannes Film Festival in 1996✨ Directed by Stephen Frears, The Van features hilarious performances from Colm Meaney, Donal O’Kelly, Ger Ryan, Neilí Conroy, Brendan O’Carroll and many more. Based on Roddy Doyle’s beloved novel, and the third instalment in The Barrytown Trilogy, The Van follows best friends Bimbo and Larry as they launch a mobile chip van business during the 1990 World Cup.  In 2025, Lead Actor Colm Meaney received the IFTA Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his many iconic performances, including this one. Thirty years on, The Van remains one of Ireland’s most iconic films☘️ #IFTA #thevan

IFTA Academy Members are deeply saddened at the passing of Gary Lydon, the hugely talented Irish actor of stage and screen and founding Member of IFTA. Gary was a much-loved acting talent within the Irish film, television and theatre community, who leaves an outstanding and inspiring legacy of work.  He won two IFTA Awards for his role on RTE’s The Clinic, in 2005 and 2007, and his career saw him work with many key directors including Steven Spielberg, Neil Jordan, Martin McDonagh and John Crowley.  He delivered scene-stealing performances in projects such as Pure Mule, The Guard, The Banshees of Inisherin, Lakelands and Trespasses, alongside a thriving stage career.  Later this year, we can all look forward to seeing Gary shine on screen in a leading role opposite Brían F. O’Byrne in Declan Recks’ new film One Sweet Hour, and in Tony O’Donnell’s The Sandy Banks opposite Pat Shortt. Thinking of Gary’s family and friends at this time. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam💚 #IFTA

It’s the 10th anniversary of Love & Friendship, the Irish-made adaptation of Jane Austen’s novella, released in 2016 ✨ Directed by Whit Stillman, the film features wonderful performances from Kate Beckinsale and Chloë Sevigny, alongside a host of Irish actors including Jenn Murray, Lochlann O’Mearáin, and Ross Mac Mahon. Filming took place in Ireland, with locations such as Howth Castle, Newbridge House & Farm in Donabate, and Russborough House in Blessington helping bring its world to life. Love & Friendship earned IFTA nominations across several categories, including Best Film, Production Design (Anna Rackard), Costume Design (Eimer Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh), and Make-Up & Hair (Eileen Buggy & Lynn Johnson). A great rewatch for the May Bank Holiday weekend☘️ #IFTA
