IFTA Academy Members are deeply saddened at the passing of Gary Lydon, the hugely talented Irish actor of stage and screen and founding Member of IFTA.
Gary was a much-loved acting talent within the Irish film, television and theatre community, who leaves an outstanding and inspiring legacy of work. He won two IFTA Awards for his role on RTE’s The Clinic, in 2005 and 2007, and his career saw him work with many key directors including Steven Spielberg, Neil Jordan, Martin McDonagh and John Crowley.
He delivered scene-stealing performances in projects such as Pure Mule, The Guard, The Banshees of Inisherin, Lakelands and Trespasses, alongside a thriving stage career.
Later this year, we can all look forward to seeing Gary shine on screen in a leading role opposite Brían F. O’Byrne in Declan Recks’ new film One Sweet Hour, and in Tony O’Donnell’s The Sandy Banks opposite Pat Shortt.
Thinking of Gary’s family and friends at this time.
