NNS19: Sheila Hicks. a little bit of a lot of things Die US-amerikanische Künstlerin Sheila Hicks (*1934) hat sich über sechs Jahrzehnte hinweg immer wieder neu erfunden: von der Arbeit im Kontext des textilen Kunsthandwerks hin zu einer international renommierten zeitgenössischen Künstlerin. 2023 zeigte das Kunstmuseum St. Gallen in der Lokremise eine umfassende Einzelausstellung mit dem Titel «a little bit of a lot of things».

An Anna Blume. Cooperation with Zentrum Paul Klee. 2026. Based on Kurt Schwitters’ iconic poem «An Anna Blume», thirteen of our students designed posters reinterpreting Schwitter’s experimental approach to language and typography through contemporary design practices. The posters are presented as part of the exhibition «Schwitters. Grenzgänger der Avantgarde» at the Zentrum Paul Klee @zentrumpaulklee , connecting historical avant-garde strategies with current graphic design. The exhibition opens this Thursday, 19.03.26, at 18:00. An Anna Blume. Cooperation with Zentrum Paul Klee. 2026. The 4th issue of NAGRA’s centenary magazine «500m+» explores how we deal with risk: nuclear waste, deep geological repositories, existential threats, black swans — and the question of what societies choose to control, accept, or ignore. Illustrated by @anna.haifisch who approaches the unthinkable with imagination rather than scientific explanation, visualising the absurd and the unpredictable throughout the entire issue. … still painfully current! Wo-Wo-Wonige! is a book about housing struggles, urban politics, and collective resistance in Zurich since 1968. Rooted in activism, tenant movements, and cooperative models, it documents how protest reshaped housing policy, urban life, and the imagination of the city. Award-winning in both content and design, the book stands as a precise typographic and historical record of a movement that refused speculation and demanded livable cities. (Side note: the slogan “Wo-wo-wonige” now reappears on a contemporary FDP poster—an oddly displaced echo, considering its origins in left-wing housing activism.) #Wo-Wo-Wonige! #ThomasStahel Design: #JonasVoegeli, with Beni Roffler Paranoia City Verlag, Zurich Silver Medal – Best Book Design from All Over the World 2007 462 pages · 265 images · 155 × 249 mm · full color ISBN 978-3-907522-22-6 #bookdesign #housingpolitics

The Radical Poetics of Materiality In VC-Edition Nr. 17, Guy Meldem @guymeldem explores radical material honesty—celebrating immediacy, roughness, and improvisation. During a week-long workshop at ZHdK, BA Visual Communication students redefined what a lamp can be when freed from functional expectations. The results are provisional luminous constructions—between function and fiction—built from mesh, posters, wire, and glue. Instability became method; experimentation became insight. This edition captures these gestures and experiments as a reflection on design as an act of thought. DM us, write an email or come by at our office to order the publication. König Hirsch / King Stag 🦌 📚 …meeting Sophie Taeuber-Arp’s mesmerising marionettes one by one. At the heart of it all lies the previously unpublished manuscript — full of local colour and subtle references — which shaped the rhythm and atmosphere of the book. We fell in love with the richness and quiet humour of this 1918 Dada reinterpretation and tried to make the book itself feel like a small theatrical journey. Kawsay Suyu. Diploma Project by Max Diemair @maxdiemair During digitisation work at the United Herbaria Zurich (Z + ZT), the long-lost estate of ecosystem researcher and Goldman Environmental Prize laureate Dr Luise Nayra Rondo resurfaced last year. It includes materials from her 2037 expedition to the Kawsay Suyu National Reserve in Peru – among them clues to previously unexplained natural phenomena. The exhibition now presents this extraordinary archive to the public for the first time. VC BA Diploma 2025.
