Pulled out all the stops for @joebiden & @complex
No gate keeping here! Let’s dive into our set up 🎥 🎬💡
We built a cross key with two @aputure.lighting LS300x on menace arms and created ambient fill with a p600 behind an 8x8 grid cloth. Then we utilized gridded f22c lights for additional spot fill.
Primary talent angles were shot with 2 @sonycine Buranos which allow us to punch in to extreme close ups as additional angles. The wide was captured with the trusty Sony A1. These cameras were all set to record XAVC-H in 8K UHD. Then we had 2 creative profile angles capture in 4K XAVC-I with FX3s. These cameras all work together in such great harmony.
We used all Sony G Master glass (70-200, 100-400, 90mm, 24mm) with the exception of the Tamron 35-150 for Speedy’s main angle. Everything was shot wide open, and I’m always so pleased with the bokeh of these lenses.
Additionally, we dialed in the house lighting pretty significantly and the practicals were tungsten pars we placed in frame. The use of mixed color temperatures was a huge key to this look.

I’ve shot a lot of big interviews in my career, but this one takes the cake! What a privilege and honor to meet the President of the United States. I don’t often feel like I’ve “made it” but this shoot is one of those rare moments where I know I achieved something special.

I pulled out all my tricks for this interview. 15 years of experience coalesced for this. We shot with 3 8K @sonycine cameras (2 x Buranos, 1 x A1) and 2 4K Sony cameras. The 3 close ups at the end are virtual, and this goes to show the benefit of an 8K acquisition.
More on this BTS story later, but my incredible team literally pulled off a 20hr day to make this a reality. Secret Service limited our numbers and each of these guys were 4 crew wrapped into 1.
