For my latest Anatomy of a Cue video, we take a look at the score for the upcoming feature film, Sugarhouse. The film is a slow-burn, coming-of-age story, thatsā backdrop is set in the rural midwest of America.
To help capture the melancholic emotions of the film, I relied on an unlikely medieval instrument, the gemshorn, performed by the amazing talented @veronika_vitazkova
Combining that with Americana instrumentation and analog synthesized soundscapes, I was able to create a unique and unforgettable score.

Working on some really cool music this week.
For the score, I decided to blend traditional folk Czech instrumentation with kids nursery toys and analog synthesis undertones.
I also really wanted to use real instruments for this score, but I didnāt have access to them, so I took a a literal page from @andrewismusic book. He said to reach out to local music stores to see if you could rent an instrument I was looking for, and lo and behold, one actually did š¤š¤

Working on another arrangement for a feature film thatās currently in development.
Trying to pull from more of an eastern folklore tone. This melody will be doubled with lyre, dulcimer, and accordionā¦. Looking forward to putting all of these elements together.

Iām excited to share that my OST for the short film, āGrunge,ā directed by Rene Rivas, is now streaming on all music listening platforms.
The music for this score blends heavy synthesized lines and sweeping guitar/bass lines with breathy textured trumpet soundscapes. The end result is something thatās emotionally complex while simultaneously unsettling.

In this video, I emphasize the emotional beats between a mother and son before her transformation.
Sonically, there is a lot going on in the second half of the cue. While the first half concentrates more on feelings of love and letting go, the second half shows the horrors of his mother turning into a monster.
