Het is officieel, @ewascheifes_ en ik kunnen NIET onderproduceren. Wat start als een ontbijtje met 10 parels uit de Amsterdamse creatieve industrie om bij te praten nadat onze sector maanden op z’n gat lag loopt uit tot een maandelijkse ontbijttafel voor vrouwen en genderqueers (ok en baby’s en doggies, maar verder sorry beste mannen) van alle leeftijden die stuk voor stuk aan kickass projecten werken. Sommigen van ons aan de start van onze carrière, anderen op de directeursstoel, en wat ons bindt is that we LOVE TO SHARE. Ok en eten, dat is eigenlijk de main reason haha… Afgelopen maand brachten we voor het eerst alle tafels bij elkaar in een Club Brekkie XL and we looooooved the vibe ☕️🥐🍸🍇. Op nog meer Brekkies!

Ooit liep ik als nieuwsgierige bezoeker rond op de @dutchdesignweek maar daar heb ik al een paar jaar geen tijd meer voor… Van speculative design installaties en het hosten van talks en workshops, tot het organiseren van de officiële Grand Opening shows en voorzitter zijn van de hoofdjury van de Dutch Design Awards - het is inmiddels allemaal al voorbijgekomen and I’m like: HOE DAN?!
Dit jaar is weer next level:
* hosten van de @dutchdesignawards Emerging Talent Award Ceremony tijdens de Ambassadors’ Get-Together bij @piet_hein_eek samen met @iamtextile en zijn all-star jury Samir Bantal, @sabine_marcelis@paulcournet@heyjohankramer@nvsvy en @geepatta (I KNOW 🤩!)
* hosten van een talk geïnitieerd door DDW Beacon @stefandiez over een nieuwe blik op hoe we de waarde van design bepalen: The Circular Design Contract (time to redesign the rules!) in @vanabbemuseum
* curatie van de dagelijkse Design Innovation sessions van CLICKNL bij @natlab.eindhoven
* en als afsluiting hosten van twee dagen vol talks bij de @designacademyeindhoven Graduation Show x @strpeindhoven en @limestone_books_maas waar we ook de STRP Young ACT Award uitreiken. ZIN IN!
En tussendoor nog een Citytalks in @internationaaltheateramsterdam met @devikagauri@stemopeenvrouw@fatimaelatik@patta_academy@estherschmidtnl@vrouweninbeeld en @jackieashkin (kom ook!) én @amsterdamdanceevent , hopelijk op de dansvloer, maar sowieso op vrijdag waar ik een panel host met oa @ferrycorsten en @aeres_world . We gaan in gesprek met politici over The Significance of Dutch EDM (en nachtcultuur in het algemeen) - want door alle drukte zou je nog bijna vergeten te stemmen ook. NIET DUS - vergeet 29 okt niet je wekker te zetten! (Met note to self: I probably need that)

In de eerste aflevering van het Agendapunt Drieluik duiken we in community theater als brug tussen #kunst en #zorg. Community theatermaker Brecht Hermans en psycholoog/theatermaker @malcolmleter vertellen over Samen in Zorg, waar #ervaringsdeskundigen en #kunstenaars persoonlijke verhalen omzetten in theater. Zo doorbreken ze stap voor stap het stigma rond mentaal welzijn.
Een inspirerend voorbeeld van hoe kunst het #sociaaldomein kan versterken.

The third season of CityTalks is about to start today! 🎉 Creating these talks for the past two years has been such a joy—bringing together friends, new faces, and inspiring voices to dive into big ideas (and plenty of laughs). Huge thanks to @internationaaltheateramsterdam (and @annelotte.heijink in particular!) for trusting me to shape these nights and bring in my fantastic community. It’s amazing to see this project grow, and I’m grateful for everyone who’s come out, tuned in, and joined along the way. Shoutout to @gnpics for jumping on board as a host and getting to know you - if I were a peanut butter sandwich, you’d be the hagelslag! Here’s to many more evenings of inspiration, connection, and fun! 💫

NEW THINGS | Wanneer @jessejop je vraagt aan te schuiven bij @raumutrecht ‘s nieuwe podcast Algoritme van de Stad als vaste tafelgast dan zeg je ‘ja’! Los van dat ik een koffiebarbaar ben (ik laat ‘m net als m’n vader te vaak koud worden en wil ook nog ‘t liefst melk én suiker erin 🙈) en me daarmee verre van een expert mag noemen (alsof dat witte mannen van middelbare leeftijd aan talkshowtafels ooit heeft weerhouden), gingen Bianca Ernst van @hofvancartesius - die gelukkig wel veel van koffie weet - en ik met Jesse in gesprek over de sociale aspecten van een bakje pleur ☕️. Om er toch iets van een ontwerp perspectief op los te laten vertel ik over de bijdrage van innovaties zoals de Senseo en Nespresso aan de democratisering van koffiecultuur, hoe pricecontrol een designinterventie is, de waarde van buurtkamers, en dat ik warme herinneringen heb aan de koffieautomaat in de supermarkt. Algoritme van de Stad, de podcast over stedelijke fenomenen en opmerkelijke regels die de stad vormen en bepalen hoe we met elkaar samenleven, is vanaf vandaag (8 feb) te beluisteren via al je favo luisterplatforms! 🎧
Sidenote: ik heb de smaak te pakken en wilde dit voor mij nieuwe medium graag meer verkennen nadat ik vorig jaar voor het eerst in een geluidsstudio zat met @affect_lab voor hun project Bloody Beautiful (laatste slide). Volgens de soundguy blijkt mijn ratjetoe accent juist top te zijn voor luister experiences, omdat je niet precies kan herleiden waar het vandaan komt (my flaw) maar er daardoor juist voor iedereen herkenning in zit (plottwist)! Zo dromen @ewascheifes_ en ik al een tijd lang van een eigen reeks over talentontwikkeling en creatief ondernemerschap (naast alle interviews die we al doen op live podia) dus wie goede ideeën heeft of de mogelijkheden (of met ons in de studio wilt zitten als gastspreker!) - just throwing it in the universe bij deze - HIT ME UP 📭
NEWSFLASH | Question: When you see the word ‘chairman’… would you have expected to see that accompanied by a picture of someone looking like me?
I’m absolutely trilled to announce that yesterday, the nominees for the prestigious Dutch Design Awards were unveiled. And guess what?! I’ve been appointed as the Chairman of the main jury!! It’s truly an honour to be entrusted with this incredible responsibility. Diversity is not confined by any boundaries in the realm of creativity. I’m here to defy expectations in the world of design, and this is a testament to the fact that inclusivity and different perspectives fuel innovation, pushing the boundaries of design further that ever before. Besides that, I have worked hard to be where I am today, so thank you @dutchdesignawards for giving me the recognition that I gave to so many others the past years.
Back to the awards, because I want to take a moment to congratulate all the nominees! Each one of you is pushing the boundaries of creativity, innovation, and imagination, inspiring us all with your creations. I’m trilled to have the opportunity to appreciate your talent first hand. The final winners will be announced in september, but may this recognition be a stepping stone to even greater success and may your creative journey continue to inspire generations to come! ✨
