Terwijl de deuren van het Collectiegebouw nog even gesloten blijven, ondergaan onze zalen een ware transformatie. We bouwen niet zomaar een tentoonstelling; we creëren een plek waar tijd anders werkt en waar verrassende verbindingen tussen kunstwerken zichtbaar worden, dwars door de geschiedenis heen.
Ons team van technici en curatoren leggen komende weken de laatste hand aan een ervaring voor al je zintuigen, die je vanaf 6 juni zelf kunt beleven.

While the doors of the Collection Building are closed, a transformation is unfolding within our walls. We’re doing more than just hanging art; we’re creating a space where time flows differently and where unexpected links between artworks across history are brought to life.
Our team is currently putting the finishing touches on a multi-sensory experience, ready for you to discover starting June 6.

In “Heavenly Biches” zorgen de fantasierijke, beschilderde doeken van Matthew Lutz-Kinoy voor een gevoel van beweging in de zaal. De werken doen denken aan coulissen, maar ook aan historische landschapsschilderingen en zeegezichten🖼️. De titel verwijst naar “Les Biches”, een ballet uit 1924 met ontwerp van Marie Laurencin, waarin speelsheid en hunkering samenkomen zonder een duidelijke verhaallijn🩰. Een herinterpretatie van muziek van Franse componist Francis Poulenc klinkt zacht in de zaal. Matthew Lutz-Kinoy reflecteert op posities van dans en verlangen, van zowel vroeger als nu, met schilderijen die functioneren als scenografie. EN In “Heavenly Biches,” Matthew Lutz-Kinoy's imaginative painted canvases create a sense of movement in the room. The works are reminiscent of stage sets, but also of historical landscape paintings and seascapes🖼️. The title refers to “Les Biches,” a 1924 ballet designed by Marie Laurencin, in which playfulness and longing come together without a clear storyline 🩰. A reinterpretation of music by French composer Francis Poulenc plays softly in the room. Matthew Lutz-Kinoy reflects on positions of dance and desire, both past and present, with paintings that function as scenography. Colors, scale, and structure guide how we look, move, and pause. Hoe zijn geluid en herinneringen verbonden? Deze vrijdag 15 mei kun je tussen 15:00 en 15:30 gratis komen luisteren naar Atheer Soot, een project van de kunstenaar Moe Mustafa. Atheer Soot is een Arabische uitdrukking voor “een geluid dat resoneert in de leegte”. Het project neemt je mee op een atmosferische reis door rustgevende en melancholische geluiden. Atheer Soot zal het recente album “The Echo of Your Skin” live uitvoeren. Dit evenement vindt plaats in de Klankkast, die deel uitmaakt van de tentoonstelling “Make Some Noise: Desire. Stage. EN How are sound and memories connected? On this Friday May 15th, between 3 PM and 3:30 PM, you can come listen to Atheer Soot for free, a project by artist Moe Mustafa. Voormalig Senior Curator @zipporaeld luidt de tentoonstelling ‘Make Some Noise: Desire. Stage. Change.’ in. Twaalf internationale kunstenaars en collectieven nemen het podium in een krachtige mix van gedurfde solo presentaties, performances en andere ontmoetingen. Met beweging als rode draad nodigen de kunstenaars bezoekers uit om te bewegen, te luisteren en te verlangen hoe het anders kan. Inmiddels is Zippora aangetreden als directeur van het Nederlands Fotomuseum, maar blijft ze met een prachtige echo betrokken bij het Van Abbemuseum tijdens haar laatste tentoonstelling. Terwijl vandaag de Dag van Empathie is, willen ook Ihssane en Kaja via de twee kledingstukken verschillende culturen met elkaar verbinden en samen een beschermende houding aannemen voor de wereldbol. In “Radically Mine!” geeft Jonas Theuns (2008) met zijn examenwerk “Het blijft eisen” zijn invulling van het subthema “To Care for Yourself and Each Other”. Op de Dag van de Arbeid werpt Jonas’ werk een blik op waar niet genoeg “care” gegeven wordt. Links zie je een machthebber die vraagt om meer, terwijl degene rechts niets heeft. Als inspiratie keek Jonas naar "Het Prinsenpaar" (1962) van Lucebert, uit de collectie van het Van Abbemuseum. EN In “Radically Mine!”, Jonas Theuns (2008) presents his interpretation of the subtheme “To Care for Yourself and Each Other” through his graduation project, “Still it demands". On Labor Day, Jonas’s work examines areas where there isn’t enough “care.” On the left, you see a person in power demanding more, while the person on the right has nothing. Jonas drew inspiration from Lucebert's "Het Prinsenpaar" (1962), in the collection of the Van Abbemuseum. Feldenkrais is een bewegingsleer die je helpt je eigen lichaam beter te gebruiken. Door een beweging op verschillende manieren uit te voeren, ontdek je wat voor jouw lichaam het beste werkt. Kunstenaar Yael Davids bracht Feldenkrais naar het museum voor haar tentoonstelling A Daily Practice (2020). De methode is ontwikkeld door natuurkundige Moshé Feldenkrais (1904 – 1984). Zijn filosofie is dat (fysiek) leren het beste gestimuleerd wordt als je je niet conformeert aan een vooropgestelde norm. Feldenkrais is a movement method that helps you use your own body more effectively. By performing a movement in different ways, you discover what works best for your body. Artist Yael Davids brought Feldenkrais to the museum for her exhibition *A Daily Practice* (2020). The method was developed by physicist Moshé Feldenkrais (1904–1984). His philosophy is that (physical) learning is best stimulated when you do not conform to a predetermined norm.
