✨ After 2.5 years in the making… our book, Kimi’s Kitchen: An Ocean Woman’s Guide to Wild Home Cooking is DONE and officially available for preorder! Release date: March 10. I’m so proud of this cover. I shot it a couple years back on a dive with Kimi and @captainpotter and called it “Grocery Run.” Nothing staged, nothing planned. Just Kimi being her authentic, powerful, feminine self underwater. At the time I never imagined it would one day land on the cover of the book but I’m so happy it did. We went through dozens of cover options (and yes, at one point were told “no dead fish” we don’t want to scare potential buyers). From portraits to cooking on the beach, all beautiful… but in the end, our incredible team at @tenspeedpress encouraged us to trust ourselves. To choose the raw, real image of Kimi doing what she does best diving underwater. A reminder: don’t try to fit the mold and stay true to who you are. To me this image represents joy, nourishment, and connection to nature not a trophy, but a way of feeding yourself and your family with intention. I love that it’s a humble fish and a simple three prong. Working on this book has been one of the greatest pleasures of my life, to learn, eat, celebrate, write, talk, shoot, and share the version of Kimi I’ve been lucky enough to know. It’s a deeply personal biography, lessons on sustainability, and a collection of recipes from all different parts of her life. I can’t wait for you to hold it in your hands and to try her food. Thank you so much for all the love and support!Preordering helps us secure budget for a book tour which I’m hoping means we get to travel and celebrate in person. Sharing a few favorite images here to make you drool. 🐟💙 link in bio. PS this is my grandmas favorite song. The OG badass woman in my life that showed me how to cook and love through food. All made possible with the best team: @kimi_swimmy @jcfiedler @cinematowski @tenspeedpress @perrinjames1 @carlyzech @tcallero @emmacampioncreative @penguinrandomhouse Photo 4 is @perrinjames1 and one of my most favorite pictures ever. The rest are collabs between the talented @cinematowski and myself 🫰

“Sea Country is not a specific place, it is a hospital. It is our teacher. It’s that interconnection of what makes us Island people. It is life as we know it. We have been here for over 65,000 years caring and protecting our region for Millenia. Torres Strait Islander people live intrinsically with the ocean, our land and the sky. It is our responsibility to look after her so she can look after us.” - Tishiko King Last year I had the privilege of collaborating with @patagonia  and @patagoniaaus  to direct their latest short film featuring the incredible Tishiko King. Thank you @tishfish__  for sharing your story and inviting me into your world. I know it’s never easy, but you walk between two worlds with such grace and reverence. I deeply appreciate your willingness to offer such an honest, unfiltered look at why you do what you do. Thank you, Bala Yessi and Lala Gutchen. Your knowledge and ability to read the water will stay with me forever. It was an honor to dive the reefs and even if briefly experience the power of Sea Country in Zenadth Kes. Huge thanks to my multi-hat-wearing creative G’s, @tylerschifmann  and @nainoalanger . Even when our entire plan got thrown out the window the night before you both rolled with it and brought such amazing energy and talent. @maxwellwalter  - I wish you lived closer so we could collaborate more often. And to the entire post team— thank you for everything even though our schedule was 🙃 And lastly, thank you to Naima, Shanon, Jake, Monika, and Alex at Patagonia for inviting me to help tell these stories. Last time, you passed five MPAs using films we made. I can’t wait to see what you and Tish are able to accomplish this time. A link to watch is in my bio. The film will also be premiering tomorrow evening (and Sunday) at @Mountainfilm . Sadly, I won’t be there, but some of the Patagonia crew will be repping hard! Full credits in comments. Hope you enjoy!

I am so excited to finally share that Searching for Amani, the feature length documentary that a group of talented filmmakers and I have been working on for many years, is set to have its world premiere at @tribeca on Saturday - June 8, 2024! I never could have imagined what started as an idea to give cameras to kids living on the frontlines of climate change would lead us to the finished film we have today. We were working in the Arctic, the Pacific, the bayous of Louisiana, and then we met 12 year old Simon and his family who slowly but surely forever changed our plans and all of our lives. Now Simon is 17 and yes, it is still a still a story about climate change but more importantly it’s a story about family, hope, friendship, and resilience. It’s a story about a boy at the center of it all who wants to be a journalist and has hopes for a better future. It’s a story about understanding and seeing the other side. Thank you to my producing brother Peter Goetz (@backroadspictures ) who jumped in before any of this was more then just a sliver of an idea & was the first to meet Simon. To Debra Aroko (@_aroko ) my directing and impact partner in crime. To @campbellbrewer @rhesus_positive_ @ronnie_mugambi @cappuccino222 @paula_kahumbu091 @notorious_nip and the entire team … our cross-cultural labor of love is a testament to the power of collaboration and the potential of film to bridge divides, process grief, and foster understanding. Most importantly thank you to the Ali family for trusting us and inviting us into your home. It’s been one of the most incredible privileges to witness the love you have for each other and an honor to help memorialize the legacy of Stephen. More info and screenings to come but for now we are counting down the days (& doing our absolute best to get Visas approved) until we are all in NY together! @searchingforamani #tribeca2024

Wow the first leg of the book tour already feels like a distant memory. From Oahu to California, over 1,000 friends came out to the events, and somehow every stop felt personal, warm, and full of love. We heard so many sweet stories, met incredible families, and came away so inspired by the California dive community. Between conversations about the ocean, food, and everything in between, we were reminded exactly why we made this book in the first place. With your support (and VAER), we also raised $4,000 for flood relief in the last couple days, ate 3 late-night cheeseburgers, and handed out over 500 JuneShines. Huge thank you to everyone who showed up, and to all the sponsors, collaborators, and friends who made it happen. So many people not pictured but thank you. And thank you mom for taking so many videos! More stops coming this summer and fall, but for now, happy cooking and happy Easter weekend. That sure was fun ✨💙✨ @kimi_swimmy @jcfiedler @juneshineco @cinematowski @tenspeedpress @jenjenalarcon @olukai @chris_malloy_yarning @alexsagormley @vaeradventure @patagonia @patagonia_surf @thegoodzieglerlife @bluewaterdiveshop @patagoniavta @nowservingla @the.rabbits.foot @seastephaniefish @ritzcarltonoahuturtlebay

Huge mahalo to Kim, Jack, and the entire team at @kokualearningfarm for letting us celebrate the launch of the cookbook at their beautiful farm-to-table dinner series. So many hands helped make this moment happen. From the people who grew all the vegetables and produce, to the hunters and fishers who provided the wild fish and invasive sheep and deer, to the entire @piligroup team who showed up day after day to prep what became such a special night. Kimi, I am so freaking proud of you and all the work you put in. Not only for this dinner but over the past few years to make this book come to life. Watching your power grow and grow is one hell of a beautiful thing. You fought a shark to bring that Ono back to the plate :) This book pushed both of us out of our comfort zones creatively and professionally. And on this International Women’s Day it makes me beam knowing how many strong women helped bring this baby into the world. @jenniferfielder @carlyzech @emmachampion @kellysnowden @tcallero — we are so damn proud and grateful to be at this moment together. Thank you to EVERYONE who made this the best baby luau, launch party, and celebration of love and food. Also @mikeborchard , no words. Thank you so much for helping us capture the night. You are a hammer. And @cinematowski @carlyzech and @draytie_ , thank you for always going above and beyond. If you want to keep the celebrations going, we’ll be at @olukai in Chinatown on launch day from 5–7 PM on Tuesday, and then having a very special evening and talk story at Turtle Bay on Thursday, March 12th, with California stops to follow. Also a moment for dis dress. Proud of you ladies @eimeo.clothing

What a journey it’s been! Searching for Amani is now available worldwide with two incredible, award-winning distribution partners ✨🎉 If you’re in the U.S., you can stream the film on PBS World @worldchannel and globally the film is now available via Al Jazeera’s documentary strand, Witness. @aljazeeraenglish @ajwitness To celebrate, we’re sharing a brand-new trailer ⚡️ We want to extend our deepest thanks to everyone who made this film possible — from Simon and his family, Haron and his, to our entire team and executive producers, @autlookfilmsales , and the incredible partners at PBS and Al Jazeera… we could not have done this without you! From our very first meeting, Executive Producer and Nat Geo Explorer @drpaulakahumbu with @wildlifedirect made one thing clear: this film had to be easily accessible in Africa. Too often, films are shot on the continent, but the people who live there cannot watch them. From that moment on, ensuring both global and local access became a non-negotiable for us. The strength of this film lies in sharing Simon’s story — and in making sure that story can be seen by everyone. As the Horn of Africa approaches another season likely marked by intense drought, we’re reminded of an essential truth: The people who bear the greatest impacts of climate change are not the ones creating it. And as Simon reminds us, there is power and agency in every story. Use your voice. With love and gratitude, and in tribute to Mr. Ali and Baba Lengus - your legacy, and your children, will not be forgotten. Thank you to PBS and Al Jazeera for helping amplify these stories. ♥️The Searching for Amani team @farstaractionfund @randomgood_films @backroadspictures @tigertales @museum_crane @_aroko @gromlet @rhesus_positive_ @ronnie_mugambi @campbellbrewer
