He presents a carefully selected group works by two American artists, from different generations, that leads visitors through a spatial form of abstraction situated between structure, surface, and architecture. The display builds a dialogue between Nassos Daphnis’s paintings—characterized by expansive planes of primary color from different periods of his career, from the late 50’s to the 90’s—and Rita McBride’s sculptures, installations, and architectural models, from the last 30 years. Le grand artiste sud-africain William Kentridge conclut cette première édition avec Colonial Landscape, une conférence-lecture en anglais qui mêle dessin, théâtre et poésie visuelle. Figure majeure de l’art contemporain mondial, il revisite l’histoire et les paysages marqués par la colonisation avec une puissance et une humanité inégalées. Un moment rare, à ne pas manquer. Avant cela, Le Silence des Oiseaux rend hommage à Rachel Carson, pionnière de l’écologie. Une performance sensible et engagée signée Fabrice Murgia, Estelle Spoto et Louise Knops, entre art, science et mémoire du vivant. O resultado só foi possível pelo espírito de perseverança e união que pautou todos os que na exposição trabalharam - a quem o Kindred Spirit saúda e agradece. Agradecemos também os quase 350 visitantes que, neste período, vieram e virão visitar o espaço, ver a exposição e trocar ideias. Brevemente anunciaremos a data de lançamento do catálogo. Obrigado. — Palindrome, the third exhibition of the In The Present Now cycle, is on show until 28/11/24, presenting a dialogue between artists Rui Calçada Bastos and moutaincutters. The result was only possible due to the spirit of perseverance and unity that characterised everyone involved in the exhibition – to whom Kindred Spirit extends its greetings and thanks. Nine visual artists and architect’s collectives were invited to deconstruct and take over all the corners and spaces of the Center. From the gallery space, to the theater and cinema in the basement, passing through the inner courtyards, the whole site is transformed into a new playground. By defying the obvious, this exhibition re-examine the existing architecture and its function, in order to open a gap towards new possibilities. These site-specific installations - including both subtle interventions and immersive environments - allow to rethink and re-potentialize the spaces by transforming their standard use. Each artist and collective prompt an extended time for observation. Thus, through these attentive experiences, the onlookers are able to deepen the perception of the artistic and architectural gestures. The breach created with the existing elements is intended to reconfigure the space and the preset order. While its intrinsic qualities are revealed, the environment is transfigured to create a new visual and physical experience, open to everyone’s pathways.
