Last month, on the occasion of a talk at @panoptescollection with @sebastienpluot , I presented a new artwork that was invisible – or almost ! “Automatic drawings”, 2026 Dessins réalisés sur les tickets d’entrée de l’exposition / Drawings made on the exhibition admission tickets. Dimensions variables. [FR] Dans “Automatic Drawings”, le ticket d’entrée devient le support discret d’un geste machinal, proche du gribouillage d’attente, introduisant l’usure, l’inattention et la discontinuité au sein d’un dispositif supposé stable. Seuls quelques tickets portent ces traces, circulant anonymement dans l’espace et conférant à l’œuvre un statut mobile, quasi invisible et impossible à localiser précisément. L’œuvre absorbe ainsi le temps de l’exposition et celui de la visite : elle n’existe que dans sa circulation fragile, son apparition intermittente et ce qu’il en reste dans la mémoire des spectateurs. [ENG] In “Automatic Drawings”, the admission ticket becomes the discreet medium for a mechanical gesture, akin to doodling while waiting, introducing wear, inattention and discontinuity into a supposedly stable system. Only a few tickets bear these traces, circulating anonymously in the space and giving the work a mobile status, almost invisible and impossible to locate precisely. The work thus absorbs the time of the exhibition and that of the visit: it exists only in its fragile circulation, its intermittent appearance and what remains of it in the memory of the spectators. En 2022, j’ai invité @ryokosekiguchi à échanger avec moi autour du phénomène de l’heure bleue et de l’œuvre éponyme dont elle est inspirée, ce moment fugace, entre la nuit et le jour, avant l’aube, où le ciel est d’un bleu électrique et où la nature est complètement silencieuse. Cet échange public a eu lieu en pleine forêt et a précédé le texte «le rêve bleu» qu’elle a écrit et que nous avons publié aux éditions Dilecta, en avril 2023 dans une monographie dédiée à ce projet. En Janvier 2024, j’ai reçu, avec une grande joie et une immense fierté, son dernier livre, « L’appel des odeurs », édité par POL. Là, dans ma boîte aux lettres, il était accompagné d’un post-it qui marquait un chapitre. À la lecture de ces lignes, l’évidence qu’il faille peindre de petites forêts bleues — celles que pourraient contenir des boîtes qui tiennent dans le creux de la main—, m’a sauté aux yeux. « Il s’agissait d’une œuvre qui avait besoin de temps pour être achevée » dit-elle. Il m’en a fallut un petit peu pour commencer. « Silence painting » est une œuvre hypnotique et évolutive qui réagit à la présence de spectateurs devant elle. Son bleu profond devient clair lorsque des personnes le regardent et restent silencieuses. L’artiste Dimitri Mallet @dimitrirobertmallet s’est inspiré de l’heure bleue, ce moment, à l’aube, où le ciel se pare d’un bleu électrique et durant lequel les animaux de nuit sont déjà couchés et ceux du jour pas encore réveillés, la nature y est alors silencieuse une minute. Cet artiste français, qui est également commissaire d’exposition, questionne ainsi la posture du spectateur dans un espace d’exposition. « On ne discute plus, on regarde avec notre chair », dit-il.   « Silence Painting » se place dans la lignée de cette expérience du «vide» et du «silence», engagée par Klein, Rauschenberg et Cage dans les années 1950, et qui aujourd’hui, dans notre urgence écologique et démocratique, résonne particulièrement.  ©Dimitri Mallet, adagp Paris 2025.  ©Courtesy collection Panoptès, Bruxelles. #dimitrimallet #art @panoptescollection

Dimensions variables [FR] Measuring desorder est une œuvre de dimensions variables et protocolaire, réalisée avec des noyaux d’abricots peints en blancs. Installée in-situ, elle agit comme un élément de scénographie. Le nombre d’éléments constituants l’œuvre est un multiple de la durée de l’exposition. Chaque jour, des noyaux sont interchangés, si bien qu’à la fin de l’exposition, la position des tous éléments aura évolué tout en ne déformant pas la forme de l’ensemble. Ces actions journalières, dont le spectateur peut être témoin renvoient à la temporalité propre de l’exposition, de son essence, de son caractère immuable ou évolutif, de son entropie et de l’aspect collectif de l’existence de l’œuvre, et ainsi d’une exposition, d’une société… [EN] Measuring desorder is a large scale protocol work created with white-painted seeds. The artwork is installed in-situ and adapts to the exhibition’s architecture, set design and dialogue with the other artworks. The number of elements making up the work must be a multiple of the number of days the exhibition is open. Once installed, the work is «activated» once or several times a day: two elements are interchanged with each movement, so that by the end of the exhibition, the position of all the elements will have evolved without distorting the shape of the whole. These daily actions, which the viewer can witness, refers to the exhibition’s own temporality, its essence, its unchanging or evolving character, its entropy, and the collective aspect of the existence of a work, an exhibition, a community... These last 7 years I have been working on « Silence Painting 2015-2022, the prequel to the installation « L’heure bleue », 2016. I am happy to exhibit it at the @fondation_vasarely as part of « Vivre sans témoin », an exhibition curated by @mathieu.vabre for @biennalechroniques . The exhibition is until January 23th. Last month to experience “The Blue Hour” as part as @esch_2022 in the nature reserve of Ellergronn in Esch-sur-Alzette, Luxembourg. Open every day, from 8 am - 7 pm. The Blue Hour (2022) is a museum installed in the middle of nature and dedicated to an artwork inspired by the eponymous phenomenon: a moment in the day when the sky is electric blue and nature is completely silent. [en] Monochromes are two works from the phenomenology: the vision of a monochrome by Henry Codax exhibited at an art fair in 2012, where the lights altered the proper understanding of the flat tint. The painting seemed made of bands of different tones. The vision stopped when the work was taken down. [fr] Monochrome sont deux œuvres phénoménologiques : la vision d’un monochrome d’Henry Codax exposé dans une foire d’art en 2012, dont l’éclairage altérait la bonne appréhension et compréhension de l’aplat. Le tableau semblait fait de bandes de tons différents. La vision cessa lorsque l’œuvre fût décrochée.
