On November 6th there will be an exciting symposium called "Cracks in the Pavement," at the University of Michigan-Flint. Discussion topics will cover a wide range of interests, and art, design, and dance will be represented too! Emma Davis and I will discuss the upcoming renovations to the local Riverbank Park architecture. That's right folks, it's finally happening! We will be joined by a guest from the Department of Natural Resources to brainstorm how students can get involved and learn from this exciting project happening on our doorstep. November 6th, 2:15 – 3:30 p.m. | Breakout Discussion #2: Doing Democracy in our Region. A New Phase of Riverbank Park "RSVP Cycles", Rob Carter, Emma Davis, and Andrew Cole. Please register via the UM-F website (QR code), it's free, food is provided, and there's no obligation to attend every session. See you there!

A new media and a new challenge for me, working with a CNC machine to engrave and carve a relief print block! 4800 closed vector paths and then 8 hrs of shopbot cutting. Many thanks to my excellent teacher - Warren at Factory Two! You’ll have to come to the steamroller printing event on Saturday to see the final image/text. #woodcut #woodblock #steamrollerprintmaking #flintmichigan #printmaking #reliefprint @umflint @umflintcase @flintinstituteofarts @umspresents @factorytwo @janiceemcc

Thanks so much to everyone involved with our ‘Algae Farming’ show at Mountain Shadows Gallery, especially our amazing curator Cece Cole and her assistant Kate Arford. It was so fun getting the chance to meet the other artists in the show, Claire Blanchette and Syd Peroni! Love your work with mycelium and crystalline structures. Thanks also to the Mountain Shadows Resort for their support, kindness, and enthusiasm especially Andrew, Thomas, Montana, and many more! Additionally my participation in this exhibition was supported by a 2025 Theophilus S. Lynch Fund for Humanities, Social Sciences, and Fine and Performing Arts Faculty grant award from the University of Michigan-Flint. Having visited Dawoud Bey's exhibition at the VMFA several times, it was fascinating to see him interviewed by Elizabeth Sherman at CAA. B&W photo is from his series "Stony The Road", created last year in Richmond along the James River.

Penumbra Foundation in NYC - what a fascinating place. It’s photo heaven! So lovely to finally catch up with my friend Lisa di Donato and get the tour. A few pix from the wet plate collodion studio and their exhibition spaces including the beautiful work of Klea Kcenna and also an awesome environmental show: “Field notes from Unseen California”: Aspen Mays, Dionne Lee, Karolina Karlic, Mercedes Dorame and Tarrah Krajnak. And also Adam Putnam’s moody Risograph book titled “Portholes”. So grateful to have spent some time there 😊

"Writing the Truth", 2023, 11 x 15 inches, watercolor on paper. These are the words of independent journalist Jagendra Singh and part of a series of paintings including the words of murdered journalists and environmental activists. His investigations of corruption and illegal extraction of sand from the Garra River in Northern India, cost him his life on June 1, 2015. His assailants set him on fire with petrol, he later died of his injuries. River sand is becoming increasingly valuable for the production of concrete. #JagendraSingh #sand #sandmafia #climatecorruption #climatejustice #robcarterstudio #watercolor #watercolour #textart

Some images from my inspirational trip to NYC last weekend. I got to see some of my favorite people and experience some brilliant artwork too - especially Rirkrit Tiravanija's retrospective at PS1 (including table-tennis with strangers!), and the wonderful and frankly baffling work of Helen Marten at Greene Naftali. Thanks to everyone who came out for the OSS Project fundraiser at Brackett Creek Exhibitions - it was such a pleasure to lead our painted mini community garden project! The spirit and generosity of the evening was such a joy to be a part of. 💚
