Officer Friendly Day was back for year five on May 9, and the impact keeps getting bigger. What started in Flint is now drawing attention across the country as a model for strengthening relationships between law enforcement and the autism community. UM-Flint's Winter 2026 Commencement ceremonies, May 3 at the Dort Financial Center, delivered all the celebration you’d expect—and a little extra personality to match. That creativity shone through most on the graduates’ caps, where messages ranged from heartfelt and reflective to witty and unmistakably Michigan. Each one told its own story, turning the tassel into a canvas and the moment into something even more personal. A fitting final touch to a weekend no one will forget.

They say April showers, of which there were many, bring May flowers. Well, in the city of Flint, they also bring University of Michigan-Flint graduates. The downtown campus celebrated the latest group of “Leaders and Best,” May 3, at its Winter 2026 Commencement Ceremony at the Dort Financial Center.
