have been following @vanessalgerman ’s work for a few years now, and am in awe of her poetry, the quiet force of her words and her works, the unique visual language she has created to express her view of the world and the relationships between the humxns who inhabit it. her new show @kasmingallery is an absolute revelation. found objects, resonant gemstones, trimmings and textiles interact against an auditory backdrop of joyous ballroom tracks, treating us to a multi-sensory feast within which we have the opportunity to confront power dynamics and spiritually commune with each other, informed by an artist’s pure vision. what a gift. // Dainty White Things Wrapped in Black Cotton, or, THE TAKE OVER. Or, ACIM lesson # 5: I am never upset for the reason I think., 2025 she is a mean and unfettered gaze, a snarl and a collapsing lung after a brief fistfight on late night runway in a church basement passing itself off as the holy land. She is the dream my grandmothers had while starching a husbands work shirts. She is dancing backwards. She is deathfall of the empire in blond. She is gay. She is glass beads, crystal quartz cluster, she is crystal points sharp enough to dagger through the dismissal dismal of it all. She is draining the great dismal swamp with her own eye roll. She is railroad nail numbers, she is dainty precious ceramics. She is a fat black woman taking matters into her own hands. She is the hand of fate. She is giving white beads. She is giving wood, plaster, plaster gauze and a heated gaze over the courtroom. She is not a Good Samaritan. She is an escape artist. She is dazzling in polished quartz dragon foot. it has taken me some time to gather my thoughts about this incredible feat by @dominiquefung - 𝒜 𝒯𝒶𝓁ℯ ℴ𝒻 𝒜𝓃𝒸ℯ𝓈𝓉𝓇𝒶𝓁 ℳℯ𝓂ℴ𝓇𝒾ℯ𝓈 is an 88’ long, scroll-like painting, described by her gallery @massimodecarlogallery as an “exploration of identity, memory, ancestry, the female body, the passage of time and the fusion of Eastern and Western art historical references.” the work also represents the artist’s first foray into public art, having been commissioned by @artproductionfund and initially presented at @rockefellercenter in vinyl form, with a wonderful informative and dynamic web feature curated by @annelauresees and brought to life by @radical_nimrod . seeing the work in person at @artbasel in the unlimited section made me hugely emotional - this kind of representation on a world stage is so important, and in particular so well-deserved for dominque as a pioneering artist of her generation. it’s a huge testament to her talent, the way that the messages of her work speak to her community, and of course the collaborations that are possible between great artists, public benefit *and* the commercial market (we can hold multiple truths and goals simultaneously). couldn’t be more excited to see how dom’s work and career continue to blossom. love youuuuu and thanks for letting me be a teeny tiny part of the journey, together with your other supporters 💚🧡💚🧡 cc: @mangosmoothie3 @kathleenlynch_ 📸 by andrea rossetti

have been following @tallevitt ’s work for a while now - her methodical, precise application of paint and incised marks (designed to mimic the warp & weft of textiles) is mesmerizing and mind-boggling, but it’s really her themes that get me. she’s a thinker and an artist’s artist - playing with art history, perspective and meta-narrative. @racheluffnergallery has done a consistently great job presenting these complex works and their upcoming NADA selection looks killer. folks, you’ll have to fight me for this one. 🖌️ 🪞 🕯️ “on still life,” 2024
