"For the human helicopter sequence, we used a large crane rig with performers and stunties attached in the shape of helicopter rotors, allowing us to capture the effect fully in-camera. Shooting on 16mm film felt essential from the beginning. It gave the project the texture and rawness we were after. The camera was mounted on a Ronin 2 gimbal, suspended from a jib arm attached to a dolly. "Budget constraint was tough. We had to fit in a lot: multiple actions, two characters, and a variety of visual setups. In the director’s cut, a lot of what made it into the client version didn’t make it through, so that might not fully come across. "The goal was to tell an emotional story from the pov of a Coca-Cola can and personify the product in a subtle way. Before the shoot I cut an animatic from existing material. We pulled hundreds of references, searching for the perfect shots to inspire the language and tone of the film. My favorite moment is the CGI droplet, which falls away from the lens and flies through the air like a spacecraft reentering earths atmosphere. Our animatic really informed how that moment could work in the film." "The agency wanted all of these characters singing a unique song where the only lyric was the word chicken. Due to new regulations in the UK, we weren't allowed to show the food being prepared or consumed, so we really had to make this song stand out and be infectious. The second most challenging aspect was that this needed to be shot in one day alongside a ton of photography that was happening simultaneously. "The hardest part was filming inside the Rolls-Royce facility in Derby, where their jet engines are built and tested, while everything was still live and constantly moving around us. We couldn’t interrupt the workflow, stage the space, or fully control the light, so we had to adapt to the rhythm of the facility itself. "We had to push the shoot multiple times because of bad weather, and when things finally looked good, the Pope rolled into town and basically shut everything down. On top of that, it was insanely hot, and a lot of our locations were only reachable on foot. Our loader was fighting for his life under a blanket, wrestling the film stock in and out of the camera.
