🎬 Fork in the Road Teaser 🎬 👩🏾‍🌾🥕 Fork in the Road is an intimate documentary that explores the profound connections between people, the land, and the future of our food system. Through a tapestry of compelling stories from independent small-scale farmers across the United States, from Alaskan kelp harvesters to dairy farmers in Kentucky, the film reveals the authentic, lived realities and unprecedented challenges of those working against the tide of escalating industrialization in agriculture. 👩‍🍳🍓Featuring appearances by @nickofferman - Mary Berry @theberrycenter - @clarkbar - @chefmarcmurphy - Bren Smith @greenwaveorg - @karwasher - @ayanaeliza and others, Fork in the Road expands the conversation beyond the farm, demonstrating how food sustainability is a shared responsibility that extends into our kitchens and communities. More than a call to environmental action, the film illuminates the vital ways that sustainable food practices can nourish our bodies, strengthen our communities, and heal the Earth. ______ FORK IN THE ROAD will have its World Premiere at the @SonomaFilmFest on Saturday, on March 28, 2026! 🎬 🎥Co-directed by @jonnastasi and @vivstirnyc with @jonnastasi also serving as Director of Photography. 🎬🌱 We had the BEST time screening Fork @SFfilm recently!! The film was shown as part of the Schools At The Festival cohort, & our screening was packed with students & teachers who were truly excited & curious about the future of food & farming as evidenced by the lively Q&A. 👩🏻‍🍳🍽️ We then had the honor of meeting icon & Farm To Table pioneer Alice Waters on our visit to the Edible Schoolyard Project at the Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School in Berkeley, where we learned more about their garden & kitchen curriculum from the educators leading this pioneering work. Most recently, we brought the film to students and faculty at Pitzer College for their Storytellers’ Poetry, Art, & Film Festival where farmers from Lopez Urban Farm joined us for a meaningful conversation about how agriculture connects us more deeply to our food, our land, and ourselves. #forkintheroaddoc #edibleschoolyard #chezpanissecafe #alicewaters #chezpanisse

🎬👩🏻‍🌾 Next up for FORK IN THE ROAD is @biffma in Lenox & Great Barrington, MA on MAY 29th & 30th!!! Q&A following screenings will feature Mary Berry of @TheBerryCenter along with Fork In The Road exec producer @lisaholmesct , exec producer/director @vivstirnyc , director @jonnastasi , producer @emmawheylin , producer Stacy Lorts & composer Gary Meister (@naturalistic ). May 30th is already sold out, so if you’re thinking of coming, grab tickets for May 29th ASAP! 🎥🌱 We were lucky to spend several days shooting with the amazing people of The Glynwood Center for Regional Food and Farming (@glynwoodorg ), incl. President & CEO Kathleen Finlay (@katfinlay ) & Farm Director Nicole Scott, both of whom are featured in the film. Kathleen was recently awarded the Rachel Carson Award for Women in Conservation by the National Audubon Society, is an advisor at Regenerative California, a judge for Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability Accelerator, and serves a Co-Director of the Rome Sustainable Food Project at the American Academy of Rome, founded by Alice Waters. An experienced organizational leader, writer and network builder, she is particularly interested in empowering women and historically marginalized individuals to address our most pressing issues, especially humanity’s relationship with the natural world. Nicole’s curiosity and desire to learn about animal behavior and husbandry began while working at the National Zoo in Washington, DC. This led her to pursue her career in agriculture at Cornell University where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. While at Cornell, Nicole began farming on a small hog operation in the Finger Lakes Region and was introduced to the non-profit sector as an intern at the Groundswell Center for Local Food and Farming. Nicole moved to New Zealand in 2018 to work on different sheep, beef, and deer operations that ranged in size from 1,000-hectare lowland to 18,000-hectare high country stations throughout the North and South Islands. 🚜🍿See you at the movies! #forkintheroaddoc #BIFF2026 #glynwoodfarm #regenerativeagriculture #documentaryfilm

🎬👩🏽‍🌾 That’s a wrap for us @slofilmfest , thanks so much for having us, & special thanks to @skyemclennan , @hicin , Shanti Herzog, @gracebtucker , & Kellie Conn!! 3 sold out screenings & lots of great feedback & curiosity about the issues we tackle in the film. While there, @vivstirnyc & @lisaholmesct were invited to visit @cityfarmslo & meet the inspiring @kaylarutnut . Since 2013, City Farm SLO has stewarded 19 acres of the Calle Joaquin Agricultural Reserve through organic agriculture. Thirteen acres are subleased to small-scale independent farmers, while the remaining land is regeneratively farmed through powerful youth education programs. Their mission is to empower the next generation to live healthier, more prosperous lives through sustainable agriculture and hands-on farm education. And yes… we also got to hold 4-day-old lambs. 🐑🌱 #ForkInTheRoadDoc #SLOFilmFest #RegenerativeAgriculture #FutureFarmers #CityFarmSLO

🎬👩🏻‍🌾 @slofilmfest we’re coming for you!  FORK IN THE ROAD is hitting the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival! Come witness the incredible journey of María Ana Reyes from Narci Organic Farms (spotlighted below) and explore the critical choices we face in our food system. SCREENINGS: 📍 Sat 4/25 | 10:30am (Palm Theatre) 📍 Sun 4/26 | 4:30pm (Downtown Centre Cinemas) 📍 Tue 4/28 | 2:15pm (Downtown Centre Cinemas) PANEL: “BEYOND THE FARM” 📍 Sat 4/25 | 1pm @ Festival Lounge With executive producer Lisa Holmes & director Jonathan Nastasi. We spent time & shot over multiple years with the incredible María Ana Reyes of @narciorganicfarms while making FORK IN THE ROAD, as her life story is the perfect embodiment of what this documentary truly represents: the courageous choice to move from a system of extraction to a system of healing. For María Ana, this wasn’t just a career move; it was a matter of health and survival. Having started in the fields as a child, María Ana spent decades as a farmworker, but the industrial system she worked in eventually took a toll on her body. After becoming sick from the pesticides used on the crops she tended, she was driven by the need to grow food that heals rather than harms. By collaborating with @kitchentableadvisors she achieved her dream of owning and operating a 10-acre regenerative farm on California’s Central Coast, focusing on pesticide-free, organic produce. Now María Ana is not only reclaiming her own health, but ensuring that her community has access to food that is truly nourishing. And Narci Organic Farms is a sanctuary for soil health and a beacon of food sovereignty. Her life is a testament to the idea that when we heal the land, we heal ourselves. See you at the movies! 🍿🌱 #forkintheroaddoc #sanluisobispointernationalfilmfestivalc #regenerativeagriculture #narciorganicfarms #documentaryfilm

🎥🍽️ I had the best time chatting with @angeliquejackson of Variety a few weeks ago @skyfirefilmfest where we got into how @jonnastasi , @lisaholmesct & I set out out on the path to make FORK IN THE ROAD, my years showrunning Chopped (where Jon was a DP), the myriad challenges faced by farmers, the inspiration I find in the lives of my grandparents (who were labor organizers) & parents (who were fierce environmentalists in New Mexico), the incredible work of @TheBerryCenter , Karen Washington (@karwasher ) and her @gardenofhappiness.bx , and even why we should all be cooking with kelp. You can watch the interview & read her @variety article via the link in bio above! @forkintheroaddoc #forkintheroaddoc #variety #sustainableagriculture♻️ #savesmallfarms #chopped

🎬🐄 FORK IN THE ROAD will also be screening this Friday April 24th @ 8pm @HanesbrandsTheatre , @RiverRunFilm Fest in Winston-Salem, NC!!! Director @vivstirnyc will be in attendance for a Q&A after the film!! 👩🏻‍🌾🥬 We visited the extraordinary Mary Berry many times while making FORK IN THE ROAD, and she was the person who helped define what the “fork” in the title truly means: that we must make a choice about how we farm, how we eat, and how we care for the land. Mary is the Executive Director of @TheBerryCenter and a dynamic force in the movement for sustainable agriculture and the renewal of rural America. She is the daughter of renowned American novelist, poet, essayist, environmental activist, and farmer Wendell Berry, yet has built a powerful legacy of her own through action, leadership, and decades of hands-in-the-soil farming experience. Founded in 2011, The Berry Center advocates for small farmers, land conservation, and healthy regional economies by focusing on land use, farm policy, farmer education, urban education about farming, and local food infrastructure. Its goal is to establish within the Commonwealth of Kentucky a national model of urban-rural connectedness. 👨🏽‍🌾🐂 Berry is attempting to restore a culture that has been lost in rural America. She continues the advocacy of her grandfather, father, and uncle for land-conserving communities. When President Obama appointed her to Kentucky’s Farm Service Agency State Board, she took on a public role in an effort to change policy. For 32 years she farmed for a living— first as a dairy farmer, then raising tobacco, and later raising organic vegetables as well as pastured poultry and beef. #ForkInTheRoad #TheBerryCenter #MaryBerry #WendellBerry #forkintheroaddoc
