Here’s a selection of images I shot at this years International Mass Timber Conference. I toured Multnomah County’s stunning East County Library and Sauter Timber’s gorgeous new fabrication facility on day one and covered the keynotes, event tracks, and the exhibit hall the rest of the week. I can’t say it enough: it’s remarkable to work in an industry full of support and forward thinking. I’m walking away from IMTC 2026 with gratitude for the people and teams I get to work with and, of course, the inspiring mass timber projects that I get to experience and document.

I spent the past few months brainstorming, curating, and executing The @masstimberconference ‘s first ever Mass Timber Gallery. The initial idea was to host a small photography show off site—this snowballed into a gorgeous custom gallery wall build out by @torzosurfaces featuring work from four distinguished photographers in the mass timber sector: Marcus Kauffman, @emaphotographi , @laraswimmer , and myself (Nic Kielbasa). The Art Of Mass Timber will be on the IMTC show floor for the duration of the conference—opening this afternoon. Special thanks to everyone who made this happen. I feel privileged to show my work next to these photographers.

I’ve been documenting the construction of Timberlab’s ambitious Independence Hall CLT Manufacturing Facility since the groundbreaking in February 2025. The topping out ceremony last month truly felt like a celebration, reunion, and intentional moment of reflection before this next chapter begins. Congrats to everyone involved.

The Columbia River Maritime Museum’s newest addition, Mariners Hall, topped out in late June. I documented the project four separate times, from the first curved glulam beam to the roof being set in place. It’s hard to put into words how mesmerizing this project is. From my time spent shooting near the pedestrian walkway on the waterfront and interacting with countless locals and tourists visiting the main branch of the museum, it begs the question, “why aren’t more buildings built like this?” I’m excited to see the project when it’s completed. It makes me proud to live in Oregon, and I’m sure Astorians feel the same way.

The last few panels for Portland State University’s Schnitzer Art + Design building were dropped into place this week. I documented the project multiple times during the mass timber construction. Seeing this building go up floor by floor—with the iconic West Hills as a backdrop made this project one of my favorites to photograph.
Since the site is located in the downtown urban core, I found myself interacting with people on the street, talking with them about their curiousity and excitement around the mass timber material. Congratulations to this team for their hard work on this structure.

The warm, natural hues of this mass timber office are breathtaking. Located in NW Portland, the new HQ for @thesis.agency houses Portland’s creative talent and utilizes timber to achieve a forward-thinking design for a new office.
