This installation at the Walmart Headquarters in Bentonville, Arkansas, highlights the versatility of Thin CLT and how it can be used beyond traditional wall and ceiling applications.
For this project, Southern Yellow Pine Thin CLT was used to wrap and conceal exposed metal framing around both the interior and exterior window conditions. Rather than leaving the structural steel visible, the Thin CLT created a seamless wood-clad appearance that tied the entire space together visually.
To achieve the look of full structural CLT, we fabricated a thick edge detail around the window framing. This added depth creates the illusion of a traditional mass timber assembly, while still utilizing lightweight, non-structural Thin CLT panels throughout the application.
By using Thin CLT in this way, the project was able to capture the warmth and architectural presence of mass timber without the added material bulk, weight, or complexity of full structural panels.
Projects like this showcase how Thin CLT can be used creatively to solve design challenges, enhance interior and exterior aesthetics, and bring mass timber elements into spaces where traditional CLT may not be practical.

A behind-the-scenes look at bringing the Mass Timber Art Gallery to life at IMTC.
This time-lapse captures our crew in action-installing SPF Thin CLT paneling and transforming the space from start to finish. What started as an empty area quickly became a gallery showcasing incredible photography from across the mass timber industry!
For this installation, we created removable 3/4" Thin CLT walls, supported by custom-milled Douglas Fir framing, allowing the panels to stand strong while remaining flexible and easy to install. Each section was set up one at a time to form an “H” layout, creating a natural flow for attendees to move through and experience the exhibit.
It’s always fun to see the behind-the-scenes action and watch everything come together.
