Tucked into the Yellowstone Club of Big Sky, Montana, Elk Sage Ranch is a private mountain retreat made up of four unique buildings—each designed to complement the landscape and each other. From the expansive main residence to the guest and caretaker cabins and the horse barn, the property blends comfort, functionality, and strong architectural character. Large outdoor living areas, dramatic views, and a layout that responds to the site make this estate feel both elevated and grounded in its surroundings. A great example of mountain living done right. Building above the Arctic Circle means everything is harder: access, schedule, and weather. In Kotzebue, the Maniilaq Employee and Patient Housing Facilities uses prefabricated CLT panels with steel framing to reduce the construction schedule – ideal for reducing exposure to the harsh environment! Totaling 104,000-sf, the two buildings—48 staff units and 56 patient units—are located right next to the health campus and are recognized as Alaska’s first CLT structural building. Here, we see the employee building well underway! Thanks to KPB Architects for the fantastic progress shots. It's with great admiration that we see DCI Principal Roger Heeringa step into his next path forward. After 38 years (just one less than our firm's existence), Roger is retiring—leaving behind a legacy of great projects and invaluable relationships that outlast the work itself. Learn more about Roger's journey at the link in our bio. #DCIEngineers #DCILeadership #DCIisMe #Retirement #StructuralEngineering

“There’s a quote we all know: Actions speak louder than words; and in the case of our six core value words, they’re just words – until each of us puts them into action and shows what those values truly mean to DCI.” - Jeff Brink, CEO The DCI Values Leadership Awards (VLAs), a peer-nominated program that launched this year, allows us to recognize the individuals who demonstrate the firm’s six core values in real time. With 160 nominations firmwide, we couldn’t be prouder! Please join us in congratulating our 2026 VLA Recipients. #DCIEngineers #DCIisMe #DCIValues #Culture #Values

Happy Earth Day! DCI Engineers has released our 2026 Embodied Carbon Action Plan (ECAP), outlining how we’re continuing to advance our commitment to the SE 2050 Challenge and net zero embodied carbon in structural design by 2050. The ECAP serves as a working roadmap—tracking progress, aligning efforts across the firm, and identifying where we’re focusing next. This year’s plan also includes several key updates and milestones that reflect how our approach to embodied carbon continues to evolve. Explore the 2026 ECAP and read more about what’s new in this year’s plan in our latest news post. Link in bio! #DCIEngineers #EarthDay #Sustainability #ECAP #SE2050

DCI’s 636 West 158th Street is nearing completion in Washington Heights, Manhattan, and was recently featured by @nyyimby , a leading outlet covering real estate development, architecture, and construction in New York City. This project showcases the kind of structural problem-solving that protects neighboring buildings while delivering a distinctive exterior. Key structural highlights include: ✨ A steeply sloped site (up to 20 feet of grade change) driving stepped pile cap elevations to align with adjacent foundations and avoid undermining nearby structures. ✨ Cantilevered columns and a perimeter ring beam supporting an architectural decorative crown at the second-floor terrace and roofline. ✨ A very deep cellar (19 feet) that transitioned from a planned garage to a lightweight “box” community facility structure built within the completed main shell. Congratulations to the project team on reaching this milestone. Photo by Michael Young. #DCIEngineers #DCINewYork #StructuralEngineering #StructuralEngineer #NewYorkCityDevelopment

Located in Portage Bay, a former machine shop was reimagined into what is now @saintbreadseattle — a favorite neighborhood destination shaped by craft, heritage, and outdoor gathering. Guided by belief that the craft and care you give to one’s pursuits is a sacred act, Saint Bread honors the site’s nearly 100-year legacy as a wooden shipyard. That spirit of craftsmanship lives on — reinterpreted through baking and expressed in design details that celebrate the building’s past while preserving its humble character. Link in bio. Happy 5th Birthday to our friends at Saint Bread 🎉 #SaintBreadSeattle is designed by GBA and built by @metis_construction with structural by @dciengineers . 📸: @rosseckertphoto #grahambaba #saintbreadseattle #adaptivereuse #craft

We’re excited to share that DCI’s Seattle Headquarters just won a 2026 Vision Award for Tenant Improvement from the Seattle and Bellevue 2030 Districts. This office was designed around smarter, lower-impact choices: reducing embodied carbon, energy use, and water consumption while improving comfort and supporting transit access. Located on the 17th floor of 1700 Seventh Avenue, it’s built to support collaboration across engineers, BIM designers, and non-technical teams—with floor-to-ceiling windows and design moves that highlight the existing structure. The final construction design delivered a 17% embodied carbon savings compared to the initial concept. And now you can check it out for yourself! DCI’s Seattle Headquarters will be featured as one of the site tour stops for Energy Week: an immersive series on energy efficiency, decarbonization, and renewable energy solutions for the built environment, happening May 11-15. The week also includes educational webinars, interactive panels, and networking designed to help property teams and industry partners advance progress toward the 2030 targets. Thank you @Seattle2030District and Bellevue 2030 District for the recognition, and @hoknetwork for partnering with us on bringing our Seattle headquarters new life! Updated zoning rules in New York City now allow ADUs in one and two-family homes in all low-density districts, with restrictions on certain types in certain areas to address concerns around flooding and neighborhood context. Dubbed the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity, the amendment was adopted in December 2024 as a solution to the City’s housing shortage and is anticipated to bring 80,000 new units over a 15-year period, of which 25,000 are expected to be ADUs. DCI’s New York team worked with @unit2dev on two such ADU designs for the ADU For You program, which provides pre-approved drawings and guidance for homeowners to build a unit on their property. "As the Engineer on this project, I believe this initiative may be a game-changer for affordable housing in New York City. By streamlining the approval process and enabling property owners to add ancillary dwelling units, it is easier to create much-needed affordable housing in neighborhoods where options are limited. This program not only helps address the city's housing shortage, but also strengthens communities by offering more residents the opportunity to stay close to family and work." - Cristian Vimer PhD, PE, DCI Principal #DCIEngineers #DCINewYork #CityofYes #ADUforYou #NewYorkHousing #StructuralEngineer #StructuralEngineering #NYCPlanning #AffordableHousing Photo credit: @unit2dev
