Walking into a building with 7,687,680 cubic feet of interior volume is breathtaking. It happens rarely, for most of us, but we got to have that experience as part of our work on the Oregon mass timber economy. Field States was invited to join the “topping off” ceremony for Indy Hall, a vast new mass timber building by LEVER Architecture that will house Timberlab’s factory operations in Millersburg. Oregon’s early economy was built around the timber industry, and the same industry will be at the heart of our next economy. Cutting edge innovation in wood products, construction techniques, and architectural design are not only an opportunity for entrepreneurship—they are also the tools we need to address environmental and housing challenges. Indy Hall is a proof of concept for sustainable industrial architecture. It is possible for us to do big things. Field States’ mission is to make places thrive. We do adaptive urbanism at the intersection of architecture, real estate strategy, and economic development. We are proud to be supporting the emergence of the mass timber industry and working alongside industry leaders like Timberlab and LEVER who are shaping a more sustainable future for the region. #masstimber #economicdevelopment #oregoneconomy #leverarchitecture

Timberlab provides some of the highest quality glulam manufacturing and fabrication services in the domestic U.S. construction market. With facilities based in the heart of Oregon’s timber basket, our operations ensure that your projects use the highest-grade lumber in the country.  With extensive roots as a builder, we turned to glulam production in 2021 to meet the industry’s growing need for large-scale custom fabrication, allowing the market to take on bigger and taller mass timber structures. In 2024, our team launched manufacturing operations with ambitions to grow the market supply and supporting regional timber economies. Offering multiple specie types, we produce glulam that meets both performance aesthetic standards for a wide range of structural and architectural applications. For more information about our glulam offerings, please see our comprehensive Glulam Product Guide. Timberlab is proud to share our mass timber contributions for the Multnomah County East County Library—our first completed project as a glulam manufacturer. Located in Gresham, Oregon, this 93,000-square-foot civic space is more than a library. Designed to serve a historically underserved part of the county, the building includes a performing arts theater, makerspace, and will serve as a permanent home for the Gresham Farmers Market.  As Oregon’s second-largest library, it also serves as a showcase of mass timber design, featuring giant glulam columns and girders that evoke the feeling of walking through an Oregon forest. The structure’s complexity demanded dozens of unique timber-to-timber and timber-to-concrete connections—all engineered, manufactured, fabricated, and installed by Timberlab. With nearly 1,200 glulam pieces, including the largest members ever to run through our CNC machine, our team was proud to deliver a beautiful and complex mass timber building.

Mass timber is in full swing at @portlandstate . The new Art + Design building features some beautiful curved cross-laminated timber panels (@kalesnikoff_ ), creating softness and movement to an orthogonal design. Timberlab broke some in-house records for the speed of installation on this project—one of the many benefits of mass timber as a material choice! 1,200. That’s how many glulam beams our team fabricated and installed for the new Brooks Museum of Art in Memphis, TN. Designed by industry juggernauts @herzogdemeuron - the new mass timber museum features a stunning display of regionally-sourced southern pine mass timber products. Slated for completion this year, the new civic center will be one of the largest mass timber projects on the east coast. Mass Timber Benefits: Wood-to-Wood Connections Wood connections offer a compelling opportunity to reduce or eliminate metal connections. This helps simplify job site assembly and preserve the architectural intent of exposed timber structures. By relying on fabrication methods like notches, concealed screws, and interlocking profiles, the hardware typically associated with structural connections can be taken out in the design process.  This approach also simplifies sequencing by enabling prefabricated assemblies to arrive at the jobsite installation-ready, reducing the need for extensive bolting, bracket installation, or additional wood cover for fire protection. Timberlab’s engineering and design teams specialize in early-phase collaboration to identify where these efficiencies can be realized. Using the expertise of our digital construction and fabrication teams, we ensure that the mass timber members produced off-site come together with precision during the installation process. #masstimber #masstimberarchitecture #masstimberbuildings #masstimber #wooddesign #timberdesign #woodbuilding #crosslaminatedtimber

Cheers to new heights! We recently topped out The Oxbow—a six-story hybrid CLT project rising in Charlotte’s Optimist Park. Built in collaboration with @timberlabinc , this mixed-use community brings fresh energy to the neighborhood. It includes homes, hangout spaces, and space for local shops and businesses to thrive. #masstimber #construction #charlotte

In a joint venture with Monteith Construction, Swinerton is providing general contracting services for the construction of Live Oak Bank. Swinerton's mass timber affiliate @timberlabinc , will be performing the delegated design of the timber structure and prefabrication of glue-laminated timber and cross-laminated timber (CLT) at the Greenville fabrication facility. The structure will feature southern yellow pine glulam columns and beams and a CLT floor and roof. The built-to-suit office building is designed to support the client's values of sustainability, health, and wellness. Live Oak Bank is being constructed to achieve LEED Silver certification. Connect with us at the @masstimberconference and learn more about this project and others. #IMTC2025 #masstimber #construction

Northlake Commons opened this year in Seattle, Washington, and brilliantly showcases the superior beauty of mass timber in modern office design. Timberlab was the project's mass timber fabricator and installer, delivering 1,394 custom glulam pieces. Kalesnikoff provided over 500 CLT panels. Nestled along Lake Union in Seattle, the project opens to a popular greenway and features 60,000 square feet of outdoor terrace deck space. Weber Thompson designed the project with a biophilic mindset, the tall glulam columns replicating the feeling of walking through a Pacific Northwest forest. This project was a highlight and a joy to work on. Thank you to the fantastic project team that helped bring Northlake Commons to life. Video shot by FLOR Projects

A throwback to when Portland International Airport was still under construction. This shot was taken by our field crew team who installed over 35,000 pieces of timber for this monumental project! Have you taken a flight out of Portland recently? If so, what are your thoughts on the new mass timber terminal?
