Today at @chifilmfest will be the last festival screening of Dummy!. After 13 festivals in this run, it’s been one of my absolute favorites I’ve attended. When it’s 1 AM and you’re trimming a cheap men’s toupee for a ventriloquist dummy’s head, you start to wonder what you’re doing with your life. But getting to connect with audience members and other artists about this piece has made it all so worth it. Thank you forever to @nwalks and @arcieropam for getting exactly what kind of specific, peculiar world I was hoping to create from the moment they stepped on set. And @madds.mov whose gorgeous work as DP still stuns me every time I watch. NYC post for fellow NYC folks - my short DUMMY! is having its nyc premiere at the regal cinema in union square this Sat Dec 7th with @danceswithfilms . DUMMY!’s my first narrative short, and I wanted to make something about body dysmorphia & EDs in the style of a retro technicolor melodrama with puppets. AVALANCHE OF SUN is a short film + live performance hybrid created with @rae.with.wings , ft. their original aerial apparatus. We loved making this one so much. Remembered to finally post after chatting recently with @jennabeanveatch , who led the creative workshop where I made the found text poem this project is based on.
