COLLABORATOR SPOTLIGHT: X Medianoche (they/them, sound design and organ accompaniment) “miracles are happening and they’re happening right now. amidst the chaos, amidst the corruption, amidst so many systems that are functioning being so completely unwell. something helpful i try to remember to do is to expect a miracle and they come. expect a miracle! expect a miracle! expect a miracle! they don’t always come in the forms that i expect them to and they may not feel like miracles in the moment but what has been proven time and time again is that the low points invariably become a place for healing to take place. the most helpful thing i can do is surrender and remember that i don’t know what anything is for (what these painful life experiences will be used for) but what i am sure of is that i can always always always expect a miracle” X Medianoche (b. 1993 in South Florida) is an artist working in sound, video, installation, print and performance. Often utilizing their artwork as prayers and spells for union, X’s work confronts and suspends itself amongst their viscous relationship to technology and spirituality. X is currently at the University of Wisconsin-Madison about to complete their MFA in Studio Art this Spring 2024 where they have spent most of their time researching and making work with the organ. X’s sound design work, a quadraphonic sound installation in collaboration with Paz G for Paz G’s Bay Area Now 9 sound, sculpture & mural installation, is currently on view at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in San Francisco, California until May 2024. Their work is made possible by god, spirit guides, angels, love, friends, teachers, time travel, strangers, music, mistakes, saturn, sound healing, synchronicities and probably you.

A promise I made to myself going into my Masters program was to bring knowledge that I learned inside the walls of Academia outside~~~ *THIS SUNDAY* 3/29 💻 I’m facilitating Listening Lab 001: On Sound & Attention ~ a 2 hour seminar on sound, attention, listening, the soundscape, & various applications of these ideas. 11:30am-1:30pm PST - ONLINE ~ all interested are welcome to register ~ you don’t have to have sound experience or be working on sound (artists, writers, the sound-curious, all humans, etc are all welcome to join) ~ born out of a curriculum I’ve been working on called The Listening Artist, I’ll guide us through the work of various artists, writers, & theorists, through experiential exercises & writing, and we’ll discuss how to apply what we’ve practiced into our lives. Currently, I primarily create & present multichannel audio works. The inspiration to begin with this Listening Lab? The number one thing I am focused on during the creation process is how the spatialization of sound will guide the attention of whoever is experiencing my sound work. We won’t be getting into making audio installations as this is not a studio course, it’s a seminar ~but~ it’s possible we may talk about that too if you’d like at a later date ;-) 🚪Doors are open ~ if you register today (3/24) the class will be $45, $55 through Saturday and $65 day of on Sunday.
