Edible Drawings (1990) by John Cage, well-known avant-garde composer and lesser known mycologist, naturalist, and visual artist. These are handmade papers made with ingredients from his own diet, ingredients said to be sourced from Chinatown and his local forest. Wild Edible Drawing #6, made with mulberry, burdock, hibiscus stems, barley, hijiki, clover Wild Edible Drawing #7, made with hijiki seaweed, bitter melon, and ginger root Wild Edible Drawing #8, made with milkweed, cattail, saffron, pokeweed, and hijiki Chef Michael Silver, who had purchased one of John Cage’s edible drawings, celebrated his departure from the Gardner Museum Cafe where he had worked for many years, by cooking the edible drawing and making it into soup, abiding by Cage’s original intent with the work.

(一) Searching for Form:001 Spring is a study&documentation on/of process, an archiving of the between, the before. before we present, before we perform, before serving, before we gather. between the things we do, between what we have planned, the messages we receive. the places we find ourselves, what we make, see, & feel 001: Spring a. mung bean, pea jelly, carrot for @passages_wine b. nectria cinnabarina in tilden c. <3 fish cake in hot pot d. roasted delicata with 腐乳 @passages_wine e. table from shelves/seating for @notesofmoss @thelaststraw_sf f. 笙/ mouth organ g. 笋/bamboo in ice bath h. starfish

(collective) < singular - collective - varying - uniform > without singular form it would be impossible to decipher if things are uniform or varying. collective form is only possible when singular forms are joined or duplicated. in this first index of ( 一) searching for form: 001 spring, found its form in pink wares, greens for eating, soft delicate orange petals and squash, squishy stars and hearts, plump yet petit forms. collaborations, gatherings, meetings felt soft, colorful, sweet & warm. there is beauty in singularity, its impactful and sure. there is sweetness and joy in variation, leaving space for the unexpected, there is power in collective, joining. uniformity is impressive, comforting, consistent, reliable, and like singularity effective. <3 u, see eat

《喜年来的咸豆花》 by @angiezhengg < in this zine, is a collection of nine short memories recorded during 雨水节气 < 2.8 - 3.4, 2026 >. there is this saying in chinese, 雨过天晴,after rain, a day with sun follows. i find that this zine exists somewhere after rain, before the sun. when benches are still too wet to sit on. when grass smells green. when the sky is very bright by clouds diffusing light. if you unfold the pages of this zine, rotate it 90 degrees and let the pages fall from the dowel, you will find continuo/续 (2026), a graphic score composition that asks nothing of its performer. at the bottom of the score, you will find a recipe for 咸豆花, which i recommend you make on a saturday. i ask that you hang this zine on your wall and let it sound and accompany through different seasons of living, as a reminder of continuum & permission to be as these memories have for me. > riso printed @nowplacesf 16 x 10.5 cm dm for pre-order inquiries limited copies will be also available @nowplacesf later this month

For the second @passages_wine we collaborated with Angie Zheng of @_seeeat_ With our four courses on Feb 14th, we brought Shanghai flavors and California hippie food together for a once in a lifetime Valentine’s Chinese New Year cabaret. For the first course, We had spring pea dashi and mung bean jellies, topped with fried and blanched snap pea, celery celtuce citrus vinaigrette, and garlic ginger chili oil, roasted delicata squash topped with 腐乳 fermented tofu, purple shiso, and seaweed, and vegan Shanghainese hairy crab dumpling with mushrooms, ginger, carrots, and vegan parm. In the spirit of Dungeness crab season in SF, Angie wanted to honor Shanghainese crab traditions. During late September and October in Shanghai, hairy crab season is every Shanghainese person’s favorite time of the year. For this dinner we made a vegan version capturing all of the most important flavors in one bite, black vinegar, ginger, and rice wine. We served this first trio course with a 酸梅汤 sour plum tea martini made with a mandarin infused vodka, vermouth, and romantic and medicinal herbal rose, fermented salty and sour plum beverage. Huge, thank you to our to our team Thank you so much to @_p_a_l_l_a_s_ for for hosting us Thank you to @kelseymcclellan for the beautiful photod Thank you to @zedalav_ for the menu design Thank you to @kaciahyazzel for the beautiful florals
