Join us on May 29 for the world premiere opening of 2026 Artist in Residence Bill Fontana’s project, Resonance, created especially for Grace Cathedral as the central event of his residency. Resonance is a sound sculpture created with our silent bells and organ pipes. Fontana has created works with the bells of Notre Dame and the Vatican, among others. This is his first bell project in the United States.

The Rev. Paul Hardwick was ordained to the Christian ministry in 1963. He served local churches in the Midwest for 40 years before moving to the Bay Area in 2003. Paul will share about his role in the Baptist tradition and their journey to a church home at Grace Cathedral. Today, we honor the life and legacy of Rita Semel, founder of the Interfaith Council and a devoted former trustee of Grace Cathedral.
Rita dedicated her life to building bridges of understanding, compassion, and dialogue across communities and faith traditions.In remembrance of her 104 years with us, the bells of Grace Cathedral will toll 104 times today at 11:30 am.
May her memory continue to resonate in the hearts of all those whose lives she touched.
On Thursday, May 21 at 5:30 pm, please join us for a special Evensong honoring our Canon Director of Music, Jared Johnson, as we give thanks for his extraordinary ministry and wish him well as he begins his new chapter at Washington National Cathedral.
