My brilliant friend
@drkwilkinson has written a beautiful book and everyone needs to read it✨🌏
Katharine is an incredible climate educator and communicator. She is also the person who inspired my work on climate change. It was our conversations
@oxford_uni @rhodestrust that convinced me to dedicate part of my practice to climate justice. So it’s a beautiful full circle moment to be interviewed by her - 20 years later - for her next brilliant book (after
@projectdrawdown and
@allwecansave ) to talk about my climate work, including litigating to have fracking declared unlawful in the UK on climate grounds and the
@cij_icj climate change case #ICJAO4Climate - and what it means.
Her chosen title, Climate Wayfinding, reminded me of
@vishlprasad @pisfcc and his powerful words to the
@cij_icj with
@spc_cps , now quoted in the book:
“In the Pacific, we have always looked to the stars. Our ancestors navigated the vastness of the ocean and traveled immense distances. Today, the world needs wayfinders, those who can guide us towards a path that protects our homes, upholds our rights, and preserves our dignity…Just as the wayfinders of the Pacific held the wisdom to guide us through the vast ocean to safe harbor, you have the knowledge and responsibility to clarify the law and stop its exploitation, make real the abstract and guide the international community to ensure protection of the climate system. By providing this clarity, you can part the clouds, enable us to see the stars again, and find our way home.”
And the court did just that, by applying international law to the conduct responsible for climate change.
And Katharine’s book does it too, by helping people to “navigate from climate ache to action, doubt to possibility”. Out now in all good bookstores.
