Thrilled to announce that ISLE OF DEVILS, a Bermudian story that we were fortunate enough to film entirely on the islands of Bermuda, will be having it’s World Premiere at the  @micheauxfilmfest in Los Angeles later this month!!

This project is incredibly special to me as it’s the culmination of an idea that I’ve been ruminating on since childhood. In elementary school Bermudian kids learn about “Portuguese Rock,” an historical carving on a cliff face on the island’s south shore. A few weathered characters and the still legible date - 1543 - serve as the earliest evidence of human habitation of the island, as well as its oldest graffiti. But who left this inscription? What caused them to be there? And what became of them given that Bermuda wasn’t officially “settled” for another 66 years. These questions were the inspiration for ISLE OF DEVILS, and it was a pleasure and an honor to get to bring it to life with so many of my dearest friends and family.
Huge thank you to everyone involved with making this project a reality!! Can’t wait to share the final project with you all and the world!!
The film plays Sunday, October 26th at 1:30pm at the Culver Theater, Auditorium 1. Tickets are available now on the Micheaux website: /2025-festival-schedule/

@dpkali here and as I wind through these last few days of my hosting duties I’m going to share a few projects that are as yet unreleased that will hopefully be heading to festivals and audiences in the near future.
The first of these projects is the film “THE MODEL,” shot in collaboration with EP/writer/lead actor Cora Vander Broek @coravanderbroek and director Stephanie Owens @sesameobins
I was enthralled with this project from the very first read of the script. It struck me as subtle, deceptively simple and yet extremely emotional. It felt like a challenge. My mind was instantly whirring with thoughts about how we might match that emotionality and restraint in our visual approach. When speaking with the producing team in our very first meeting it was clear that we all felt the same way about the project, it resonated on the same frequency for each of us and we had the same thoughts and concerns about how we needed to approach production. It was a great team of thoughtful and considerate creatives that came together to realize this one and it was a truly spectacular experience from that initial zoom meeting right the way through to these last stages of post. Can’t wait to share the whole thing with everyone soon!

@dpkali here again, changing it up a bit and sharing part of a scene from the film “HONEYMOON”
This segment comes from the climax of the movie where the couple, Peter and Ijemma, who’ve been wed the day before in an arranged marriage have their first real fight.
When writer/director Amy Aniobi and I were first discussing our approach to the scene Amy broached the idea of shooting it as a oner in order to keep the audience within the moment and intensity of the couple’s escalating emotions. We discussed the challenges of this approach, not the least of which was trying to pull off a nearly seven minute handheld oner that would need to dance with two characters around the confines of an unknown location, and the fact that at times the camera might not be in the right place to catch a moment, or see a reaction that the audience would want to witness. We acknowledged both the pros and cons of the oner approach and decided that it was something we still wanted to try, while keeping in mind that additional coverage might be necessary to properly capture the scene.
In the end we shot the scene as a oner in its entirety six times and we were all impressed by how successful it proved to be. But, we also knew that there were certain beats, and certain reactions that we were not seeing and so, we went back in and did some additional setups in order to fully capture the scene.
I’m immensely happy with how the whole thing turned out. I think it’s invaluable to have bold, ambitious ideas and to try things that scare you, or seem crazy, or that you’re not entirely sure will work, but it’s just as important to know what you need for the story and to always be honest about whether you have enough to do justice to that. Story first and foremost! Over and above things that are cool.
Mad props for the whole team in pulling this crazy day off!
Shout out to ICF*C for having me host their page for the next couple of weeks… we all know what a great and frequent poster I am 🤣
But seriously, I’ve had the privilege of working on a ton of great projects that I’ve meant to post more about and I’m glad for this small push to be more proactive with sharing. Check out the @theicfc account, there are so many brilliant cinematographers whose stunning works are on display.

The memorial for my father, Kenneth ET Robinson, will be held this afternoon at 2pm in Spanish Point Park in Bermuda.
For those desirous of but unable to attend there will be a live stream of the service at the following link:
itch.tv/jroctv2000 which will begin 5/10 mins before the service.
A digital memorial to dad can be found here:
/memorial/kenneth-robinson
please feel free to post any photographs and/or memories of dad there should you feel so inclined.
It’s been a little over a week now but it’s still near impossible to accept. Seventy two years on this earth, yet still not nearly enough. We had many great times, fascinating conversations and brilliant adventures over the years but my father, Kenneth Edward Taylor Robinson has gone to join the ancestors.
He had more than his fair share of health issues over the last couple of years and fought through them all with grace and strength. And now he is at rest.
We love you and will miss you Dad, now and always. May you be at peace.
