This is an excerpt from my score for Soundcheck: Gardens of Golden Gate Park.
Each circle represents a cross section of the root system of Redwoods. The vast network in established root systems provides stability and structural support. They also transfer important information and nutrients by utilizing a symbiotic relationship between the mycelium and other microbial organisms and elements in the soil.
Part 1 is divided into 3 sections contained within 18 minutes. These 18 minutes are spilt into 3, 6,and 9 minute intervals for an equally balanced structure.
The instrumentation is for 4 people and the Earth, so a total of 5. Each contributing sound and timbre balanced with silence. Once the 18 minutes has concluded. There are 2 minutes of observation before moving on to Part 2.
The score has a legend with instructions on how to navigate and techniques to interpret the score. All these parameters are inspired by the Redwood Groove at the @sfbotanicalgarden in San Francisco. Hope to see you at the world premiere in San Francisco in September.
