Piano album update! New release date is May 30th (2 days before my birthday!).
I also learned an important lesson which is: don’t choose “Classical: contemporary” as your genre. Actually, don’t choose Classical: anything as your genre lol. A bunch of stores won’t accept it (lookin at u Apple Music), and also there are lots of other weird rules for how your name appears, how crediting other musicians works and whether you can collect money for streams. If you’re releasing an instrumental album, apparently the genre to choose is New Age 😂 So, I am slightly concerned to announce that I am now apparently a New Age artist 🔮☄️✨

Tl:dr Music update— I’m releasing a solo piano album! It’s called Songs for Melting, and it comes out on May 9th under my new musical moniker Lorist. I’m very glad to share my wistful morning piano musings with you all 🌅😌
It also features some lovely violin accompaniment on one track by @kyachuu_potions
Although my piano journey started when I was a kid (see photo 1 of tiny baby doug), I mostly didn’t enjoy the piano lessons my parents had me taking and stopped as soon as I could. This photo captured one of the rare moments when my parents got me to practice 😅
I decided to try again during the pandemic, learned a few jazz chords, and started experimenting. During those weird, anxious & isolating early pandemic days, my morning piano time was something deeply calming and grounding.
When I started re-learning, I really didn’t expect I would record and release anything, but I did make a habit of recording little snippets I liked as voice recordings. Late last year I started going through them and realized that they felt like many vignettes of the same story, and I also realized that I wanted to share that story. Listening back to these 19 (!) little piano scenes brings me a lot of joy, and I hope they’ll do the same for you 😌
This music on this post is the single I released from the album— Autumn 🍂 Oh, and the cover art (second photo) was a photo taken by my dad back in 1972! Expect some more vintage photos as the release date approaches 📷🎞️🫶
I am so incredibly grateful to everyone who came out for our @ghostfetishband album release show on Thursday. Being able to share our art out to a FULL ROOM of our friends truly meant the world to me. Like for real my head is still spinning. Luv you all, and thank you for dancing your hearts out 🖤 It has been a wild ride since we started this project 2 years ago (!), and I love that I get to keep making music with @_modern_dancer_ and @glittmusic
