The Irish Rovers have been Canadian legends since their formation in 1964, bringing us together with “rollicking, rousing performance[s] of good cheer…”. These gentlemen are such icons, Prime Minister Trudeau senior asked them to become Canadian citizens! This St Patrick’s day, the Rovers cannot lead their singalong in person as they normally do. Instead, we can all tune in to their YouTube channel at 12 noon (PST) on March 17th to sing along virtually. Here they are, headed in to film their new music video! This event is in aid of The Unison Fund, a non-profit working to support Canadian musicians who are suffering hardship due to economic or health factors. Matt Patershuk’s new album “An Honest Effort” from Black Hen Music releases today! Matt is a country/ folk artist from La Gace, in north western Alberta. In his website bio he references his grandfather: “Matt’s Grandad used to say: “God loves a trier”… He meant that there is worth, and value in the trying. The act of making an effort is redemptive, despite the outcome.” We can see the effort in this album, and the outcome is a wonderful folk album with a collection of stories about people who are trying their best, even when life doesn’t make it easy.
